There are so many different attractions that are in and around the Atlanta area that you can really make a week's long vacation just in this one city.
This science center is a really neat place for you and your family to learn about a lot of different things.
Fernbank offers a fantastic spot for school field trips as well as for your family.
This center offers exhibits and live animals as well as different programs that will really help your children learn about all the animals they see.
They used to have a program only during the summer months but now have included it for school time as well.
This program allows children (and adults) to ask questions about the animals they have here at the center so that they can learn more about them.
The animals in the live exhibit include frogs, turtles and spiders, as well as a wide variety of other small creatures.
The one really fantastic feature to this science center is that the admission is free! This is a great option for those trying to choose low price attractions on their visit, as well as locals who might want to visit this center more often.
The hours of operation vary during the weekdays, but on Saturdays they are open from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.
They even offer free parking! With a lot of places around town having paid for parking garages, this is also a nice little additive to help you stay on budget!
They also have a planetarium. Unfortunately it seems that a lot of extra activities were closed for renovations during this month (August of 2010), but this is a really neat feature if you are visiting after this month. I can really see a lot of families and school trips taking advantage of this newly updated feature.
The Planetarium does cost a few bucks ($3-$4) per ticket, but since you don't have to pay for either parking or admission, this really seems doable and something that might be worth the money.
I know that Atlanta has a lot of museums and other attractions to offer, but since this one is basically free, than why not take advantage of this one on your visit. Even if you are a local, you might have never been to Fernbank, so why not take the whole family one Saturday afternoon and enjoy learning about cute little frogs and the expanse of the universe?
