Luck's Around the Corner

Heather Dekin

Traveling up the boardwalk
Smelling salt water in the air
Passing by booths selling various goodies
Munching on seafood and funnel cakes
Carrying a cup full of casino chips in each hand
Excited over a brief victory at the slot machine
Disappointed over losing everything playing blackjack
Taking a midnight stroll on the beach
Dipping your toes into the strong current
Trying not to get shipped to another less exotic locale
Where fun does not exist and only work remains
Forget that and all responsibility
Gambling away life savings in 30 seconds
Stuck holding an empty wallet
Bill collectors tailing your every move
Bank balance zero
Living in a cardboard box
Freezing your butt off on the pavement
Searching for a place hang hats on the door
Looking for another streak of luck
Finding only bad pennies and fool's gold
Until one last chip changes everything
Leaving past sins in the dust
Allowing another frolic on the beach
All in all a good clean fun trip.
