Atlantis! a Millenia Old Myth May Be Exposed by Google Ocean
Google Ocean May Yield Legendary Results
Hundreds of poems and stories have been written about the city of Atlantis. It's been an inspiration for dreamers and researchers since the time of Ancient Greece when Plato described the Golden City. Atlantis, as described by Plato, was a great island in the Atlantic Ocean. His description told of dynasties of great kings and magnificent technology. Atlantis, though was destroyed by the sea 9,000 years before his own time. Many historians and archeologists have made a case for the great civilization of Crete being the Atlantis of Plato despite the fact that Crete was in the Mediterranean.
The Google Ocean images found by Bernie Bamford are about 620 miles off the coast of Morocco, west of Portugal, clearly in the Atlantic Ocean where Plato places Atlantis. According to the Telegraph the area of the well-defined rectangle is about the size of Wales which is roughly 21,000 square kilometers or 8,000 square miles.
Looking at the "Atlantis" image and comparing it the many aerial photos of cities, rural areas, archeological sites I've seen, I do think they're on to something. While it is possible that it is some natural phenomenon, it would be very interesting to hear the explanations. Atlantis expert, Dr. Charles Orser of New York State University said that the find was fascinating and warranted further inspection.
Edgar Cayce, Colin Wilson and L. Spraque De Camp are only a few of the modern authors who have written about Atlantis. Movies, video games, even Disney bring Atlantis through 11,500 years to our time. Now, perhaps, Google Ocean and determined ocean voyeurs may have brought the real Atlantis to us. Like Troy, it wouldn't be as romantic as the legends but it would sure be exciting. Or it's a heck of a puzzle for geologists.
Any Google Ocean user can find the artifact that is causing so much excitement by looking at coordinates co-ordinates 31 15'15.53N 24 15'30.53W.
