Atlantis Resurrected

Somewhere off the coast of the United States submerged beneath the Atlantic Ocean lies a continent that at one time was inhabited by people of extraordinary intelligence. Their knowledge of science surpassed the knowledge of every civilization that has existed since that time. Or so the story goes. The intellectual capacity of the Atlantean society was so advanced that they apparently learned how to create their own destruction.

However, because no proof of its existence has ever been substantiated, Atlantis may be just a myth. The only apparent evidence of its existence, unearthed by various investigators, points to artifacts similar in content and structure to those found on continents separated by the Atlantic Ocean.

Numerous books suggest that Atlantis may have been a fictional place. Other books discuss the likelihood that a highly advanced civilization did exist.

Plato was perhaps the first person to speak of Atlantis in his dialogues, Timaeus and Critias. He believed that Athenians fought the Atlanteans for supremacy. Although the Athenians won the war, they need not have worried about future combat -- Atlantis ended abruptly and violently when earthquakes and flooding brought about its end, which, according to Plato, occurred in one day. Others asserted that it took years for the continent to vanish. Still others claimed that it faded away in stages.

While many intellectuals argue about the reality of Atlantis, Edgar Cayce (the sleeping prophet) who gave life readings to thousands of individuals who sought his help, provided evidence that supported its existence. In his waking state, Cayce was surprised to learn that his lips uttered the word Atlantis. Even more surprising to the man who at first did not believe in reincarnation was learning that people for whom he gave life readings once resided on the continent of Atlantis.

According to some books, entities who lived during the Atlantean period had unusual powers that allowed them to coerce the wind to blow and the rain to fall. By thought alone they moved mountains, and it may have been their over-zealousness that caused their demise. They are now supposedly returning to earth to correct past mistakes.

If Atlantis existed, islands in the Atlantic may be the scattered remains of the lost continent. Or maybe some islands are flattened mountaintops of Atlantis.

Maybe the entire continent, like missing planes and boats, succumbed to the magnetic field in the area known as the Bermuda Triangle. After all, if Atlantis sits on the bottom of the ocean, and tectonic plates beneath the surface shifted to accommodate the earthquakes, Atlantis may be firmly lodged between Florida, Bermuda, and Puerto Rico. Could high-powered magnets utilized by the inhabitants of the lost continent explain the magnetic activity that occurs there?

The ability to create takes knowledge, skill, and determination. The ability to destroy takes only skill and determination. The ability to know when to create or when to destroy takes wisdom. If Atlantis existed, its demise may have come about when Atlanteans abused their powers.

If some of us are reincarnated from Atlantis, we are now probably almost as technologically advanced as the Atlanteans supposedly were. Like the (perhaps) fictional inhabitants of the continent Atlantis, unless we pay attention to the wisdom of scientists who claim global warming is killing us, we who reside on this Earth will bring about our own destruction.

Wisdom cannot coexist with apathy. Do we care enough to resurrect our dying earth?
