Atop the Mountain Part 2

We met at the outlying post, Nibiru that hadn't been in use for years. Originally, it was where ships stopped to refuel, but that was before we learned of perpetual fuel. Now, only the purchase of supplies was necessary and we had plenty.

The first to arrive were clan from the planet Ostergot. These were the "Coldlanders". They were furthest from the sun of the planets that could be inhabited and closest to Nibiru. Many of the peoples of the planet were the entertainers for the solar system. They had the power of regeneration, as did other worlds, but used it for entertainment and their own pleasures. They would stage a fight and battle hardily throughout the day, creating a spectacle for everyone to watch. Arms fell, legs severed and weaponry created the illusion of a true battle. At the end of the day, when the battling was complete, they joined their fans and drank heavily after the show. We thought of them as carefree, but their presence indicated otherwise.

The most famous of them all was Gendalodin, the highest paid of entertainers from Ostergot. He was wealthy, but never part of the elite, never part of the entertainers that backed the man that set to destroy our solar system. He left, with others from the planet and brought with him an abundance of supplies. His career flourished but when he found his wife Gendaljord was with child, he knew that he could no longer remain and chance destruction.

Next came those from Druada. It too was a cold planet and the people had a cold, logical nature. The contrast between the Coldlanders and the Druadians was extreme. One was playful, loved physical contact and saw violence as a method of ribald humor and the other sought only solace from knowledge and the logical. They could fight, there was no doubt for they defended their planet many times in the early years of civilization, but they used the power of the mind to do that. They brought the basic philosophy of peace to the United Solar Alliance. They created laws and taught the principals of living. They were frail compared to the Coldlanders but knew so much more about the reaches of the Universe. We were glad that they came for their knowledge was welcome on our journey.

We arrived next. Our planet, Ouranos, was one of industry. Father had been a scientist and worked with Bale. They were so different. Bale had been a military man. When the United Solar Alliance realized there was limited need for military, he retired. Both father and Bale had been experts in spacecraft and landing systems. Bale created the crafts and father created the ports and messaging systems. Bale was a strong warring man. He was big, enormously large when compared to Father. His personality was bigger also. Father didn't care for disagreements, he chose not to fight, Bale on the other hand used his size and forceful attitude to intimidate those weaker. He loved confrontation, which made him quite unpopular with many members of our group. He was known for his philandering, all though no one spoke of it in front of his wife.

We lived on a planet where the atmosphere was thin, but long ago, our bodies learned adaptation. We could maneuver other places where the air was heavier by simply adjusting the size of our body to a smaller more compact form. For travel, we maintained a high level of pressure inside the craft to make more room for the supplies. We brought all that was necessary to produce helpers and food.

The next group arrived several days after us. These were the Gaians. Their appearance was different from all others in the Universe. They had bodies that resembled many of the plants on other planets. This unusual formation allowed them to maintain anonymity if warring nations landed and often gave them the upper hand in battle. A particularly bloody battle of the warring years remains a legend. Our warriors arrived on the planet of Gaia. We thought that the inhabitants were the many-armed creatures that the Gaians created as decoys. When our army battled the creatures, we found their weakness and destroyed them. Our army sought a sheltered area and had set up camp beneath the Gaians themselves, believing them trees. That night as the soldiers lay asleep they were an easy mark for the Gaians who slaughtered them in the night. Later our two planets joined forces and developed the changes necessary to our genetic make-up, which allowed both of us to travel without the need for protective wear.

Those from Anunnaki followed the Gaians within hours. The Anunnaki gave the solar system the ability to change material and matter at the quantum level with nothing more than thought. They had harnessed the energy of the brain, long before others even considered it. Their groundwork changed scientific studies and moved the solar system into a new era where advances flooded every area.

One by one the ships from the planets came. Elohim, Olelbis, Shakura, Viracocha, Brahm and finally Dumare in their antiquated oval ship. The group was not the wealthiest, they had an older ship, it was roomy enough but slower. It didn't matter, for with their arrival, we could form our plan and find a better place to live. With their arrival we could unite, select our leaders and look for an empty solar system that matched ours, one we could develop and live free again.

I called Alon that night. The conditions worsened but the new leader was going to speak that night in front of the United Solar Alliance. All hoped that he had a plan to end the unrest; others whispered that he would end the Alliance and announce himself and the supreme ruler. We were the first to leave, but families everywhere became anxious and began to plan their escape. Alon's family was among them. Chaos reined throughout the solar system as hunger, anger and desperation grew.

Great imagery, my clever friend. I wonder how many writers first love was science fiction?
