Atrocities on the High Seas

Scott Bauer
The Whale Wars television series. The entire concept of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society. The "save the whatever" idea. All of it is atrocious. And not in the way you have been made to believe...
If you lift up the rock you may have been living under and do some reading you will find there are well funded groups of "eco-warriors" out there who actively engage in an attempt to stop whaling ships in International waters from conducting business. It makes some of us feel good knowing that these brave folks are out there trying to save these giant and majestic creatures from the evil industrial fisheries.
So lets give you some real world context to this noble endeavor of theirs.
The ships that are whaling...as best I can find after much research on the topic...are completely within their legal rights of international business to be doing what they are doing. Moral or not people....its legal.
So lets shift the activity these ships are performing into something closer to home, lets say....Federal Express.
Here you have vehicles traveling around, engaged in a completely legitimate business, and a tiny group of people have some moral objection to their delivering packages. And given the mentality of some of the people I see out there, this is not that big of a stretch.
Now lets have this band of self righteous "warriors" start confronting the delivery trucks on a daily basis, damaging the vans, slashing tires, chasing away customers...what have you. Hell, lets even make a TV show to glamorize and give false legitimacy to the objectors. After several clashes, eventually one of the FedEx trucks ends up ramming the people who have been trying to stop them. Something like this.
You get the point.
Change the type of business that is making a living and the absurdity of the vandals and terrorist, which is what I classify groups like the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society as, and the atrocities that is happening on the high seas take on a whole new light.
These radical groups should be held accountable for their actions and brought up on charges. Maybe what they are trying to do has a higher moral ground, maybe the whaling needs to stop, but that is not the point here. The ramming of ships and preventing a legal company from conducting legal business is not something we should, as a society, hold up as a good thing, let alone making a television series out of it. There are countless numbers of illegal and immoral activities going on out there that these people could be championing a fight against. These misguided groups need to be fined and jailed. Maybe some time in an international prison will give them some new perspective on their choice of causes.
