AT&T Dialup Issue - Part 2

By: An Ex-AT&T Employee

I decided that since they weren't going to stop my internet service at my house until the 31st of January that I would go ahead and try to at least get everything set up. My husband talked me in to giving them yet one more chance with this whole mess. So I went ahead and called AT&T about how to set up my home computer connection. They walked me through setting up my computer and then it was time to test the connection. It wasn't working. It wasn't receiving a dial tone at all. So I thought it might just be the wiring in our bedroom so I told the AT&T guy that I would try the jack outside and see if I could get it to work then. He said okay and to call back if I had any issues.

I went outside with a phone and plugged it into the two jacks that were in the phone box outside. I wasn't receiving a dial tone there either. Had to be an issue with the line from the pole to the box. They said the line was supposed to be active, however, it wasn't. So I called AT&T back and told them that I needed them to send someone out to check on the line. I described the issue and they said okay and transferred me to the repair and service department. The repair and service department then asked me for my home phone number. I told them that I didn't have one. The lady asked me what kind of internet service did I have and I told her dialup but I have it without a home phone. She told me that was impossible and sent me over to the Broadband department. After explaining everything to them, they then sent me over to the Dialup department. The dialup department then transferred me to the repair and service department.

We went around and around about this for two more times and then finally I was irritated. I tried to explain to them how Dialup without a home phone works, but apparently no one there was intelligent enough to understand the concept. I was frustrated beyond my wit's end. I finally said to heck with AT&T on the dialup side. We're now considering an aircard with AT&T but I'm skeptical. Nothing else has worked out for us with this company, why would anything else work? We shall see next week when I purchase a new aircard how all of that goes.
