The 3G network has been available in Manhattan, parts of the Bronx and at JFK, LaGuardia and Newark Liberty International airports. The 3G network can also be accessed along the Route 110 corridor and the Hamptons on Long Island; White Plains, N.Y.; Newark, Elizabeth, the Oranges, Morristown, Parsippany and in parts of Middlesex and Monmouth counties in New Jersey.
As of the end of the third quarter of 2007, AT&T has spent over $1.2 billion over the last three years expanding its network in metropolitan New York and New Jersey.
"We are staying ahead of the growing demand for fast, dependable wireless broadband access to feature-rich Internet content, such as streaming video," said Tom DeVito, vice president and general manager for AT&T's wireless unit in New York and New Jersey. "Our goal is to ensure that AT&T customers have the very best wireless experience possible -- which means unmatched coverage and quality of service."
AT&T's 3G network provides exclusive features such as "Video Share," which allows for the simultaneous delivery of both voice and data. For example, users would be able to participate in a conference call while at the same time downloading information from the World Wide Web.
"Imagine the thrill of using your wireless phone to show grandparents in Florida their granddaughter taking her first steps in Bayridge or Bayonne," said DeVito. "That's the power of Video Share and the 3G network. It's another example of how advanced wireless services enhance our everyday lives."
Additionally, customers traveling out of the coverage area automatically convert to AT&T's EDGE network, the largest high speed wireless data network in the country, without dropping the call or data connection. Access to the EDGE network is available in more than 13,000 cities and towns and along 40,000 miles of highways and secondary roads.
List of Newly Covered Areas
In New York City metropolitan area, new areas of coverage include: Bay Ridge, Coney Island, Bensonhurst, Flatbush, Flushing, College Point, Bayside, Throggs Neck, Tremont, Fordham, City Island and Baychester.
In New Jersey, the 3G network is now also available in Edgewater, Weehawken, Hoboken, Jersey City and Bayonne.
