Attack of the Annoying Television Commercials

Even England Has Annoying Commercials

Bridget Ilene Delaney
We all know them. Unfortunately, some people love them. They are the annoying commercials. The one thing that they do is get stuck in our mind and make us remember the products. They do what commercials are supposed to do. Here are the - most annoying commercials.

Head On

Is there anything more annoying that that little clip played at the end of television shows: "Head On, Apply directly to the forehead. Head On, Apply directly to the forehead. Head On, Apply directly to the forehead."? Maybe not. Or maybe there is. "Head On, I hate your commercials, but I love your product."

All other "on" and "in" product commercials are just as annoying, too.

Quizno's Spongemonkeys

The commercial makes no sense. Two floating rodent-like appearing creatures sing about Quizo's subs. They do sing about the attributes of the product, but the fact that they appear rodent-like does not really seem to be a great selling point for Quizno's. Also, they have an annoying song they sing, ""We love the subs!!! / Coz they are good to us! / The quiznos subs!!! / They are tasty, they are crunchy, they are warm because they toast them!!! / They've got a pepper bar!!!"

There is no explanation of these weird creatures. Apparently they were created by Joel Veitch for Britain's Channel 4. There really is no other explanation. Still, some people find this to be "genius advertising."

Starburst Berries and Crème

Two guys are eating Starburst Berries and Crème. Nothing really seems all that odd. However, a little man approaches them, acts all surprised and happy, then does an annoying song and dance routine.

There's a second commercial as well. The little man known as "the little lad that loves berries and creme" teaches the song and dance. This commercial is not quite as annoying as the first, but it is annoying enough. Plus, it would not have been necessary that this commercial be made if it were not for the first.

Geico The Real Scoop Commercials

After the gecko commercials, Geico moved to the cavemen commercials. They were not all that funny as is. Now, Geico has moved into really odd territory.

There's the Geico's Flintstones commercial which claims Wilma was able to wear the necklace because Fred insured the Flintmobile with Geico insurance. They talk with somebody as if he was "behind the scenes" or the Flintstones.

Then, there's the odd Cabbage Patch commercial where "Ben Winkler" grows into an adult and finds a career on a dnacing show.

There's also the Beverly Hillbillies Geico commercial saying that Jed used Geico insurance rather than finding oil.

These commercials have no benefit or humor to make people remember Geico.

Sheila's Wheels

These commercials come from England. Sheila's Wheels is a care insurance program from Esure. They all use the same little tune which can be quite catchy if you do not have to watch it about twenty times a day. However, in England, they do seem to air the commercial twenty times a day. Then, there's the stupid way that these women "drive" as they do not watch the road and they are not careful. In that last one, there's even a huge human pyramid in the third commercial.

As of right now, Subway's five dollar foot long commercials make me absolutely blood thirsty.

At this time of year, when we recite the many things for which we are thankful . . . I am thankful for the fast-forward button on the remote control. Thanks for pointing out when to press that happy button! ;-)
