Attack of the Lad (and Old Geezer) Mags

Scarlett Johansson on the Cover of November 2006 Esquire

Paula Neal Mooney
The other day my husband received his November 2006 issue of Esquire with Scarlett Johansson on the cover. The other day I hid his November 2006 issue of Esquire with Scarlett Johansson on the cover. She is absolutely gorgeous and a great actress, but her thespian skills weren't what was prominent on the cover.

Now out comes FHM magazine's spread of 18-year-old Brooke Hogan, daughter of Hulk. I love Esquire for the mag's funny and witty prose, but aren't these sexy covers going waaaaayyyyyyy tooooo far?

I'm glad Brooke Hogan has a hulking daddy like Hulk ready to kick the stuff out of again guy who tries to get next to her. God love him!

Of course these little women are lovely to look at. Men love to ogle. But I hate that this has become some sort of rite of passage for girls once they turn the legal age.

Rev Run's daughter. Brooke Hogan. Who's next in the chain of decadent demand once the assets that the old flavor-of-the-month parlayed sag and are no longer hot commodity?

The mere fact that my blog traffic and Associated Content pageviews just might skyrocket today because of the following tags I've entered - some of which are lightening hot searches according to Yahoo Buz - shows just how visual not only young boys but our aging men are:

We get that men love to look at pretty women, but their "eye gate" also needs protecting, just like women's "heart gates" need protection from sites that entice them into emotional and actual physical affairs. Relationships are tough enough; no one needs their neighbor flaunting just how much greener - illusion or actual - their lawn is than the weedy stuff in their own backyards.

And to all you publishers and advertisers making Maserati bucks off the lunch money of horny lads and possible shame of some of these future mothers, I want you to imagine the face of your little girl in the place of Scarlett Johansson and Brooke Hogan, and tell me if it's still worth it.

Got to say it again: You're a good writer. What the hell!...I've got no dog in the hunt. Hmmm....

Amen! You should read Ariel Levy's book, "Female Chauvinist Pigs". It addresses this issue.

How funny. Let us know if your traffic skyrockets... Actually, it's a bit sad that women think they need to pose to succeed.
