Attending the Right College: A Dummy's Guide to Choosing an Education

SDR2010
Choosing the right college is probably one of the most important decisions for most high school students.
This is a task that people even find impossible, so much so that they often choose the wrong college for themselves and end up trying to find another which they feel is the right place for them. Others have such a hard time choosing a college that their decision comes so late that they miss the time period for admissions and end up not getting into their preferred school. This often results in the student having to go to community college and then later going to another school after their transition. I understand the difficulties of this decision because I have been placed in this situation in the past. I find that there are a few things that you will need to know which will make your decision a lot easier.

Choosing the right school is all about knowing yourself and your strengths, one of the most important things to decide is if you would like to go to a smaller school or a larger school. Some students will learn better is in a classroom which is under 20 and there are plenty of smaller schools which offer personalized attention. If you are fine learning in a bigger setting and so not need extra attention then you can consider choosing a bigger school.

Once you determine this you will need to develop a list of programs that you are interested in. You can do this by listing all of the things, which you would be willing to study and narrow your search down to those, which have good program in those fields. This will give you the opportunity to switch your major if you change your mind at any point.

Determine how much you are willing to spend on your education, the best schools cost a ton of money but you could do so research to find the best schools for the price by picking up a college magazine. You can eliminate the ones that are too expensive for your budget.

When you have a list of schools you are interested in you should narrow the list down by choosing schools, which are either close to home or farther away from home depending on your preference. Once you have a list of about 10 schools that you are interested in you should visit and see if you would be comfortable living there. You can eliminate the ones that you do not like and apply to those you do.
