Attention Red Sox Nation: Vote for Remy

R.D. CASTLE
Sometime during the All Star break this summer, I watched an original airing of a Red Sox game from 1967, on NESN. I noticed several major differences from today's broadcasts, mostly technical things. No stats, no instant replays, but most of all, no color commentary. Ned Martin and Ken Coleman had a guy with them, Mel Parnell, I do believe, but this just wasn't right. There was so much "dead air" in that game, that I almost fell asleep, even though I enjoyed seeing Yaz, and company once again. But man, did I miss Jerry!! He would never allow plays to go on without his expert observations. That, more than anything, drove me nuts.

These days, Red Sox Nation, alive and going very Strong, is ready to vote on a new President. Jerry Remy is the interim President, but the new election is coming soon. His job as interim President has been impeccable. Mind you, I'm not an official member of Red Sox Nation, I'm just a regular fan who loves the Red Sox, just as much, if not more, than Mr. Remy. I watch every game, including the pre and post-game shows. I couldn't afford a membership this year to the Nation, but I still belong. Anyways, is there really any doubt in anyone's mind that Jerry is the man for the job? Unlike the younger members of the Nation, I remember Jerry playing for the Sox, back in the day. He was one of my favorite players ever. Not because of his stats, but because he was an ultimate Red Sox player, in my mind. He always did something that all of my favorites did, he got his uniform dirty every single game. Just like Trot, Tech, and Youk.

Now he is modestly running to head up Red Sox Nation. He has already done several things to improve the Nation, such as getting the team owners to give up their prime box seats to regular fans, for several different home games. He has encouraged the growth of the Nation to every state in the U.S; and every country in the world. He is the perfect Ambassador for our beloved team. He cares about the players and owners, the team's reputation, but most of all, he cares about us, the fans. So give back to Jerry this year, and take the time to vote for him during the election. It will only take you a minute, but his leadership will be around for several years to come. After all, what would a Red Sox game be like, if it wasn't for our Jerry. Wally would get lonely!!!
