The History Center
Serving as the home for the Allen County-Fort Wayne Historical Society and its various colletions, the History Center is an ideal attraction for those who want to get a dose of the fascinating history of this unique area. Although their original collections were quite small, the History Center has managed to amass an impressive collection of over 23,000 artifacts, many of which are on display in their exhibits. Their exhibits are generally grouped topically, in such themes as "Earliest Inhabitants," "Miami Indian History," "An Emerging City," and "Industry." An afternoon spent in this fascinating attraction can be quite educational.
For Wayne Museum of Art
For the art lover, a trip to the Fort Wayne Museum of Art is an absolute must, as they have an extensive collection of American art, with most of the focus being on pieces created after 1850. A number of prominent artists have a presence in the museum, including Janet Fish, William Forsyth, George Inness, and Larry Rivers. In addition, the museum is also home to a number of sculptures and a substantial number of Indiana Amish quilts. The museum also frequently puts on exhibitions that focus on a particular artist, theme, or medium.
Fort Wayne Children's Zoo
Frequently ranked as one of the best zoos in the country, the Fort Wayne Children's Museum is an excellent spot for both children and adults. Visitors to the zoo can visit over 1,500 animals housed on 38 acres of beautiful land. Animals on display at this charming Indiana vacation spot include American alligators, lions, leopards, Sumatran tigers, wildebeests, and zebras. If you want to get a taste of wildlife from around the world, then the Fort Wayne Children's zoo is the right attraction for you to visit. Their hours do vary by season, so keep that in mind when planning a visit.
Science Central
Science Central of Fort Wayne immerses you in the world of all kinds of science, and is a great place for parents to come with their children. This particular attraction houses a number of hands-on exhibits, which are designed to educate the public on the importance of science and to inspire young people to pursue careers in the sciences and mathematics. This is a great way to spend the afternoon, as it is both educational and entertaining.
