Auburn Vs. South Carolina: 2010 SEC Championship Predictions & TV Time

Simon Nguyen
The 2010 SEC championship game between the Auburn Tigers and South Carolina Gamecocks is set for Saturday December 4 (4:00 PM EST) at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta. CBS Sports will broadcast the game. This is the second meeting between the Tigers and Gamecocks in 2010. Auburn is #1 in the BCS standings, with an astonishing 12-0 record; South Carolina ranks 19th in the country and first in SEC East. This article provides TV time and predictions for the 2010 SEC football championship.

1) Tigers-Gamecocks Head to Head

Saturday's SEC championship game will be the second meeting this year between Auburn and South Carolina. Since 2003, the Tigers and Gamecock have met 4 times with each winning 2. The two teams last played on September 25, with Auburn edging South Carolina 35-27. The Gamecocks will look to avenge that loss and win its first SEC championship under Steve Spurrier. Auburn, on the other hand, has its eyes set on a much bigger prize. The Tigers need a victory here to secure a place in the BCS championship game.

2) Cameron Newton vs. Stephen Garcia

The 2010 SEC championship game between Auburn and South Carolina pits two junior quarterbacks against each other. This will be the second meeting between Cameron Newton (as a starting QB) and Stephen Garcia. Both quarterbacks have had a terrific season. Newton is undoubtedly the biggest story in college football this year. The junior quarterback has thrown for 2254 yards, with 24 touchdowns and a ridiculously high QB rating of 186. Stephen Garcia is one of the most consistent QB this year, having thrown for 2646 passing yards with 18 TDs. In their only meeting, Garcia outperformed Cameron statistically in a narrow defeat.

3) Gene Chizik vs. Steve Spurrier

Auburn's road to the 2010 BCS Championship will have to go through Steve Spurrier and his South Carolina Gamecocks. Although the Tigers managed to beat Spurrier's crew the last time the two met, it was an extremely close game that could have gone either way. In fact, the Gamecocks actually led for 3 quarters until Auburn's 4th quarter comeback. Gene Chizik's team faced a similar scenario last weekend against Alabama, but also managed to pull through. The team's biggest weakness thus far has been in the defensive side. Auburn ranks a low 57th in points allowed. This is in contrast with its terrific offense, which ranks 7th in the country.

Steve Spurrier's tenure as the coach of South Carolina has not been as successful as he would have liked. However, this may change if his Gamecocks can win their first SEC championship since many years ago. Other than a few hiccups here and there, South Carolina has been quite impressive in 2010 with big wins over Alabama and Florida. Statistically, the team is solid in both offense and defense. The Gamecocks is 27th in points scored and 25th in points allowed. The key to South Carolina winning this game is quarterback Stephen Garcia. If he could turn in a performance similar to the one against Alabama, Steve Spurrier will be a very happy man.

My prediction for the 2010 college football game between Auburn and South Carolina: the Gamecocks avenge the recent loss and end Auburn's national title hope. Kickoff time for the game is 4:00 PM EST. CBS Sports will broadcast the SEC championship game.
