Auburn's Biggest Secret - Home of Gary Ridgeway the Green River Killer
I Lived by the Green River Killer for Years...
Auburn, WA 98001
United States of America
When Gary Ridgway was caught in the early 2000's it was a huge day and an even bigger relief for those of us living in this area. He lived in Auburn very close to my home. In Gary's words below you'll see that out of the 48 women he admitted to killing, they were all buried very close together within blocks from our residential areas.
In a statement to the Court on Nov 5, 2003, Gary Ridgway said:
"I killed the forty-eight women listed in the State's second amended information.
In most cases, when I murdered these women, I did not know their names. Most of the time, I killed them the first time I met them and I do not have a good memory for their faces. I killed so many women I have a hard time keeping them straight.
I killed them all in King County. I killed most of them in my house near Military Road, and I killed a lot of them in my truck, not far from where I picked them up. I killed some of them outside. I remember leaving each woman's body in the place where she was found.
I agree that each of the murders I committed was part of a "common scheme or plan." The plan was: I wanted to kill as many women I thought were prostitutes as I possibly could.
I picked prostitutes as my victims because I hate most prostitutes and I did not want to pay them for sex. I also picked prostitutes as victims because they were easy to pick up without being noticed. I picked prostitutes because I thought I could kill as many of them as I wanted without getting caught.
Another part of my plan was where I put the bodies of these women. Most of the time I took the women's jewelry and their clothes to get rid of any evidence and make them harder to identify. I placed most of the bodies in groups which I call "clusters." I did this because I wanted to keep track of all the women I killed. I liked to drive by the "clusters" around the county and think about the women I placed there. I usually used a landmark to remember a "cluster" and the women I placed there. Sometimes I killed and dumped a woman, intending to start a new "cluster," and never returned because I thought I might get caught putting more women there."
The bizarre fact to me was that Gary Ridgway was married and living in this home where he murdered so many victims with his wife. I cannot imagine the shock she must have felt. He actually admitted to killing women when his son was very young and waiting in the truck for him. My husband actually worked at Kenworth Trucking where the killer was also employed. He did not work with him directly but many stories circulated about Gary Ridgway keeping to himself (he worked in the painting booths) and those he did speak to he came across as a bible basher and religious fanatic.
I remember the day that they made the agreement to forego the death sentence as long as Gary Ridgway helped them recover the large amount of bodies and victims still missing. I drove by the dig site (again just a few minutes away from my home) and watched them scour the area and dig for bodies. I would never have guessed that wooded area would be the grave of so many from years before. I was just graduating from High School when the killing sprees were in full force. Now as a mother and wife watching the dig site buzzing with activity, I couldn't believe that all of this was around me for so many years and I had no idea.
When they arrested this killer on DNA testing he was actually quite proud that "they" (meaning the officers) had never figured out who he was. He had been questioned many times before and "almost" caught but never enough concrete evidence linked him to the victims. Years later with new technology available, he was finally able to be put away. According to his testimony he had actually given up killing for quite a few years but one never knows how true his statements were.
When you look at Gary Ridgway he looks just like the neighbor next door. I try not to focus on the negative in life or be freaked out by any person that looks suspicious, but after seeing the Virginia Tech shootings happen in one day which was the work of 10-15 years for Gary Ridgway I can't help but worry about the youth of today and what my son will have to witness in his own life time.

Post a CommentThen he started to drive parallel and at the same distance as I was walking. I finally crossed the busy Pennsylvania st. into the divider, then I seen his red pick-up truck drive the rest of the distance of the parking-lock then on to the sidewalk then straight across the street, thru the traffic to a side street that was off of the main street. He then pulled into the 1st house and he was backing up o get me, I was still in the divider so shocked by what I just seen, I couldn't yell or even speak for that matter, but I knew I had to run and by the grace of God I ran across the street and then ran again in front of his truck that was on the side street and I continued to run until I came to my uncles house on that same street, and when I looked in back of me he took off in the opposite direction. I always regretted not getting his license plates and calling the police, I think I just wanted to forget about it but I know that was him I couldn't forget those COLD eyes (1/3)
I too believe I ran into this guy in Lansing, Mi I was walking down Pennsylvania ave. around 9:30 pm, so it was already dark out but I normally wouldn't mind the walk because it was a well light & well busy street. One this day I walked by a field getting ready to cross a side street, when this guy cut me over and he asked me if I knew where a certain female lived, and me trying to be of help came closer to his truck and I said, "I'm sorry who did you say" then her repeated the name and to me it sounded like he was making up a urban name because I'm black, so I then backed my head up from his car and I looked at him in his eyes and I thought I saw the Devil, he had real black eyes with this mean look on his face I knew he was pure evil, I then said no and walked around the back of his car, and started back to walk on the sidewalk. While I was walking on the sidewalk he pulled up into a parking-lock of Eastern High school. (1/2)
to think he passed the poligraph !

this guy is crazy
i think he should me treated worse than that people get killed for just killing one person. He killed way more than one!!!
Now he lives in a tiny cell - gets his meals through a hole in a door - and never - ever - sees daylight. I am an advocate of the death penalty but - that has got to be a fate worse than death.
Seattlechic - you are lucky. I'm glad you don't party like that anymore. Ted Bundy came before Gary Ridgeway and they won't be the last evil incarnate to walk among us.
Be safe.
I met him one night in 1997, I am not a prostitute. He was in a nightclub in Auburn. I was drinking alot and looking for weed. this girl and 2 guy's introduced me to him and told me he was safe. They were to meet us at his house with more beer for an after party. They never showed up that night and I was glad I drove. There was a woman in another room calling and crying out to him " GARY! GARY!" in a sick voice. He told me it was his bed ridden mother. In his bedroom, wich was way out of context with the rest of the house, I noticed an ax behind his door. He was trying to keep me away from the door I asked him if I could use his bathroom, he told me where it was and as soon as I got out of the bedroom, I ran down the stairs and out of the house fumbled for my keys and got the hell out of there. I never told the police and still have nightmares. I dont party anymore or smoke weed. I was very lucky. Talk to your kids please!
Very freaky article! I can't even imagine what it must have been like finding out he worked with your husband.
