Audacity is a Great Free Editor for Podcast Shows and Small Home Studios

Free Isn't Always Bad

I just started a podcast show not too long ago and had been looking for a software that would allow me to not only record my voice but add sound effects as well. I was having a hard time finding something decent and cheap until I came across Audacity. I searched the web for "free," and that is exactly what popped up. I wasn't in need of something all that tech like, just something that would give me a decent sound and experience. I believe Audacity gave me both with no effort whatsoever.

Audacity is a multi-platform, open source sound editor. It has a very, very clean interface and it supports 32-bit floating audio. The features are awesome and extremely simple. It would be hard for you to become confused with Audacity due to the fact that everything is pretty much laid out for you.

Audacity's interface is what sets itself apart from all the other sound editors I've ever used. There toolbar itself is easy to manage and maneuver through. It relegates majority of the functions-such as project management-sound effects and edits--to a nice and neat drop down menu. You don't have to go searching for anything, everything is pretty much handed to you with a click of your mouse.

Another thing I like about Audacity is that it supports audio that isn't compressed. That's a hard thing to find when it comes to audio editors these days. WAV,OGG,MP3 and AIFF are just a few audio files Audacity supports but believe me when I say, Audacity gives you many, many options.

I love the effects that Audacity offers as well. I had options of using Reverb, compression, delay, echo, boost and those are just to name a few. Audacity also offers VST, Linux plug-in and Nyquist plug-ins. So if you are interested in using Audacity for music recording purposes, then you will definitely be capable.

Audacity has a beat mapper or beat analyzer . It helps you map out the beats per minute of a melodic phrase. I never use this feature but I think that just having the option is pretty cool. I may want to add music to my pod cast show in the near future.

Everything I have ever done on Audacity has been easy and quick with a few exceptions. There are times when Audacity crashed on me and I'm sure that is nothing more than a bug of some sort. And in time I'm sure it will get fixed. But I really find it hard to deal with when I'm in the middle of recording my pod cast. But I will say that Audacity has a recovery system. So nothing that I do ever gets lost after a crash. I think that's why I Really don't get discouraged when it comes to system crashes.

Audacity is a great free audio editor for people who are new to recording audio. It's free and simple to use and it offers so many different features. It is worth giving up a few MB of space on your computer. And as time goes on I'm sure Audacity will become bigger and better.
