Audio Dies a Quiet Death at YC/YCN

May the Sounds Never Rest in Peace

David A. Reinstein, LCSW

One of the wonders of the internet is its capacity to bring information and entertainment in several formats to anyone with access to it. The written word, audible material as well as visual material (still photos and videos)are available and invite a wide variety of options for sharing information as well as for creativity. This site (AC/YCN) has announced that it will no longer be accepting or publishing audio submission and that the ones posted over time will soon be removed. One branch of media is being completely eliminated.

This is a rather sorry situation for people who find that audio material best expresses their wish and need to share information or entertainment with others. I can only infer that audio posts do not generate sufficient advertising revenue to justify their continued existence. As is often the case, it is all about the money.

I have been offered a couple of video opportunities as a kind of consolation, but as I have never been nor do I aspire to be a videographer, I shall pass on those. Radio is not the same thing as TV and a CD is not MTV. Sounds, uncontaminated by visual imagery, are a unique and precious variety of creativity and offer their own special pleasures.

So, goodbye to audio posts here. May they rest in peace and find other homes for all of us who have invested our time and energy to create them.

Until they are completely taken away, my own audio posts can be found here.

Thanks for listening while you could!

If you have heard one or more of my tunes you might want to hear again and have, drop me an email (soundsofdavid@yahoo.com) and I will be glad to send you an MP3 as an attachment.

Music lives on in the world: AC/YCNs disinterest in continuing to publish it notwithstanding. The day the music dies is coming here at AC/YCN but music will live on the world anyway ... We hope!

I discovered this occurrence, myself. Actually, I wouldn't mind doing videos, but I haven't the equipment - one - and the site seems to have insufficient bandwidth to play them smoothly - two.

THanks for the support and suggestions! I have tried submitted a couple of songs as videos accompanied by a series of photos.... Time will tell...

This change is especially unfortunate for those who rely on audio content due to visual impairment.

I agree with you that the removal of audio is unfortunate... I will miss hearing your songs.

It is a very sad loss for you and many others with listening followers, the comfort of a voice is very special.
