On August 22nd American democracy will ring from Ground Zero.
Several aspects of American democracy are involved in the controversy over the proposed mosque near Ground Zero. We have heard much about Freedom of Religion since the news broke of the proposed mosque. Freedom of religion is a U. S. Constitutional First Amendment Right. However, it is not the only First Amendment Right. Two more First Amendment Rights are "freedom of speech" and "the right of the people peaceably to assemble".
The August 22nd protest is a prime example of American democracy and the First Amendment in action.
Proponents for the mosque to be built two blocks from Ground Zero have the First Amendment Right to freedom of religion.
Opponents of the mosque's near Ground Zero location have the First Amendment Rights to freedom of speech and peaceful assembly.
Both parties' opposing views are protected by the same amendment. That's American democracy and it will ring from Ground Zero on August 22nd.
American democracy is always in action. Yet, we don't always recognize it for many times it is subtle. This article is an example of American democracy. I am an American and I am free to write and publish it.
American democracy is such an everyday part of Americans' lives we may, but never should, take it for granted. When was the last time you recognized it? When was the last time you saw it in action? When was the last time you participated in it?
On August 22nd, American democracy will ring from Ground Zero. It is your chance to see American democracy in action. For more information about the protest, please refer to the links.

From the skyscrapers of NYC, I face strength. From the people of NYC, I gain understanding. And from the heart of NYC, I feel inspiration. So, I tend to write about the city quite a bit. View profile

Post a CommentPart of one of the planes that hit the two towers actually LANDED on the proposed mosque building. I would say that more than justifies calling the site, GROUND ZERO!
Lori - Before you comment do some research. It is a MOSQUE NOT A YOUTH CENTER.. What rock are u living under?? It is runned and operated by a terrorist supporter... Who is getting funding from terrorist countries.
Get educated about american before commenting....
Except it is NOT a mosque.. and you can't even see ground zero from where it is. They can protest and show their ignorance of the facts all they want, but all this kind of crap does is make even gladder that I left that lunatic asylum. If this bunch believed in freedom, they would have no problem with this Youth Center.
