A young musical couple finds love in New York City. She is an up and coming celloist, who's father pushes her to success as a cello concert player. The young man, striving to live his dream of being in a top rock group, having musical dreams of his own. When the young girl discovers she is pregnant, her father, fearing his own dream for her will soon come to an end, convinces her that the baby dies shortly after being born. Inevitably, due to uncontrollable forces, the young couple drifts apart, each pursuing their separate dreams.
Years later, the young child who feels music in everything, including the wind, feels deep within his soul that his parents are out there somewhere and he will find them. Circumstances lead him to the streets of New York, where he encounters some homeless street musicians. His own talent for music starts to blossom even more. He finds himself embroiled in a struggle to remain with the young musicians he's come to know, and his own inner forces to do more with his music. When his musical talents are discovered, he is taken under the wing of some professors from Juilliard where he soon composes his own masterful concert. It is during this concert in the park, where his parents, by happenstance, are reunited, thus realizing the young boy's lifelong dream.
Some parts of this movie appear a bit farfetched, however plausible, but the real charm is in the music itself. It's spellbounding and captivates the viewer with the magnitude of sheer genius. Robin Williams is brilliant with his portrayal of a street person, who acts as both father figure, yet opportunist, to his young, albeit homeless, musical proteges. Freddie Highmore is absolutely brilliant as the young boy with genius musical abilities. He is sure to capture your heart and respect with his superb acting. This is definitely a movie to see, if not for the music alone. You are sure to remember it long after viewing the video.
I would definitely give this movie a two thumbs up and a 5 star rating.
