Aunt Jodi and Kevin Kreider: Jon and Kate Plus Eight

Are Aunt Jodi and Uncle Kevin Fighting for the Gosselin Kids or Just Looking for Publicity?

Susan Braun
Prior to Jon and Kate Plus Eight's fourth season, Kevin and Jodi Kreider (Aunt Jodi and Uncle Kevin) were familiar sights on the hit TLC show.

Kevin was shown helping Jon in the garage, and Jodi frequently had the kids at her house to babysit. They were shown baking, doing crafts, and otherwise having a fun time. Who can forget the infamous "gumgate" episode, where Collin was given gum by Aunt Jodi and got it onto his bear blanket. Kate then threatened to throw the blanket away while venting her frustrations over Jodi giving the kids gum.

What do we know about Kevin and Jodi? Kevin is Kate Gosselin's brother (Kate also has three sisters: Clairissa, Kendra, and Christen). He works as an insulator and is married to Jodi. Until the Gosselins' move last fall to a large house in Wernersville, PA, they lived in the same Elizabethtown subdivision as Kevin and Jodi's family.

According to sources (one being Jodi's sister Julie's blog), TLC sources offered Kevin and Jodi compensation for their appearances on Jon and Kate Plus Eight. Kate reportedly went ballistic, insisting that the Gosselins were the only ones who should profit from the show, and promptly cut off contact with Kevin and Jodi.

But they have entered the picture again recently, talking to Star Magazine about their fears that the Gosselin children are being exploited in Jon and Kate's quest for fame and fortune. They also paint a very negative portrait of life in the Gosselin household, revealing that Kate had told Jon that she and Jon's marriage was over last fall and presented him with a contract which reportedly allowed him to cheat with other women as long as he agreed to continue filming the show. They also said that TLC producers had trouble finding sufficient footage to use for the show because of Kate's constant negativity and her fights with Jon.

Gosselin supporters claim that Kevin and Jodi are only speaking up to get their own 15 minutes of fame.

In an appearance on CBS's The Early Show shortly after the season 5 premiere of Jon and Kate, the Kreiders appeared melancholy, repeating their assertion that the Gosselin kids are being harmed by the relentless filming: 40 episodes in six months. Jodi said that the Gosselin children had told her that they disliked the filming. "I don't like the cameras on every vacation," she quoted one of them as saying. She also objected to the children being filmed while they are upset or having a meltdown.

Judge for yourself: are Kevin and Jodi out for fame themselves? Or are they fighting for Mady, Cara, Alexis, Leah, Hannah, Collin, Aaden and Joel?

sorry, having to fit my LONG comment, broken into several postings
why do people disparage this family for being able to afford a big house and some land? If there were 9 or 10 people living in my home, which is considered large by some, I would go crazy. If they had a house the size of the White House, well good for them! Some poeple just hate everything in general and they don't like seeing people succeed in any way. Put the shoe on your foot I say. Think of all the fun you could have if you had all the resources you would like. I LOVE to see people do well in life! The last thing is how people talk about Kate yelling at the kids: C'mon people, whose mother hasn't yelled at them. OMG, I even got spanked! Please call my mother and tell her how mean that was, please! Okay, I believe I am finally done. Now I feel better. To keep it that way I am not going to read anything else on the topic, at least not today. So, before being hateful think how you would feel if people were

I can say that I would never, ever, speak to the press about my family, no, not ever. And I would never take money from someone and say negative things. We circle the wagons where I'm from and if you're not in the family or not involved, it's not your business. If I were truly concerned about my sister's children I would speak with HER about it.

There is one thing I haven't heard mentioned. When everyone is busy talking about how mean Kate was to Jon, did anybody see the episodes where Jon would scream,"You shut your mouth!" at Kate? The other thing is this girl Haley. Am I the only person who thinks he just traded Kate in for a younger version? And the way Haley was speaking to Jon on national television...well, Kate never spoke to him like that on camera. That part of it seems comical. Okay so maybe there are a few more things: why do people rag on a woman for trying to look good? Are you supposed to look like crap if you have children? why do people disparage this famil

I know this is a very late post but I just read the comments and felt the need to add my 2 cents. For all the people with the really mean comments: man, when did people become so judgmental? I've watched all the shows and it looks to me as though the children are participating in some pretty awesome perks from the show. I wish I had been able to go on great trips and do even 1% of the great stuff they have gotten to do because of the show. I think it's awesome! Plus, they all have a nice inheritance waiting for them some day. That's awesome too! Do I think Kate's a monster? Nope. Do I think Jon's a monster? Nope. But I would probably say he's had an identity crisis andwithout Kate's guidance has done some not so nice things. But, he loves his kids and they love him. So, why did Jodi and Kevin feel the need to go on tv to air their opinion? Only they know. I can say that I would never, ever, speak to the press about my family, no, not ever. And I would never take money from

If Jodi and Kevin are wrong, so is the rest of Kate's family. Can they all be wrong and Kate be right--think about it! No body has spoken up on Kate's behalf--why not?

What money hungry slime balls go on television to trash their own family. Sure, they are worried about the kids. Ask them how much they were paid for the interview

I heard that jodi and Kevin are also getting a divorce. It seems Kevin is trying to keep up With Jon and His romaning ways. How about it Jodi???

  • Lynn7/19/2009

Their problem is that they are off the show and don't like it. Their plans was a show of their own. They wanted to out do Jon and Kate. I think that Jodi had a thing for Jon and he never paid her any attention

Shame on Kate for being such a nasty, hateful, person. Jodi, Kevin, and Beth added a lot to the show. Beth is very classy and pretty. I FEEL SORRY FOR JON AND FEEL HE DID THE RIGHT THING IN GETTING AWAY FROM THAT HATEFUL OLD HAG. SHE NEVER SPOKE NICE TO HIM OR TO ANYONE ELSE. SHE IS SUCH A DRAMA QUEEN AND THAT MADDY IS GOING TO BE JUST LIKE HER.

I admire Kevin and Jodi immensely. It couldn't have been easy for them to speak out for the KIDS. Imagine with all the $$ Kate was pulling in - that she'd begrudge TLC from paying the Krieders.

Talk about GREED. Both Jon and Kate are selfish, self centered, narcissistic - exploiting their kids to the hilt. Without the kids they wouldn't have the $$ for plastic surgery, hair implants, chefs, personal assistant, caregivers, gardeners, a MANSION!! Jon is a wimp/ thinking himself still a teenager instead of a FATHER of eight children. He's jealous of Kate/kids.

Kate thinks herself a STAR/ this has really gone to her head. Makeup/designer duds, new hairdos/ and imagine MOTORCYCLES (both of them) in this day of great poverty for many. How dare they leave this sordid tale, as a legacy for their kids/ imagine the kids at school etc. and what these kids endure (or will).

Kate and Jon are nothing without these kids who are THEIR bread and butter. Kate has a SHREW GENE/ treating her
