Trouble is brewing in Park Slope between a restaurant owner, teachers, and parents.

Irene Lo Re, owner of Aunt Suzie's Restaurant, is fixing to ban parking on Fourth Street to create a play area plaza. Lo Re is also the executive director of the Fifth Avenue Business Improvement District.

The basis for her plan is to create a play area to compensate for portions of Washington Park that will be closed due to renovations during the upcoming year. Her plan would eliminate about 30 parking places.

Teachers and parents, alike, are not happy about the idea. Teachers park in the area while at work and parents pick up kids from school.

A spokesman with the Department of Transportation said that no firm plans were in place, but that a "play street" had been considered while Washington Park is under construction. The spokesman added that the plaza could be implemented in the near future," according to The Brooklyn Parent.

Let's keep an eye on this play area, Park Slope, to see how it plays out.
