Aussie Baby's Miracle Survival

6-Month-Old Baby Escapes Injury when Train Drives Over Pram on Tracks

Susan Jane
What would you do if your baby's pram rolled off a train station platform onto the railway tracks in front of an on-coming train? One can only imagine what went through the mother's mind as she watched in horror as the train ran right over the baby in the pram. In fact, bystanders had to restrain the woman as she moved to jump onto the tracks to try to save her baby.

The train driver desperately tried to stop the 250 tonne train, but it ploughed into the pram at about 35km/h, dragging it and the child underneath the front carriage for 30 metres.

Miraculously, the 6-month-old boy survived with only a bump on the head to show for the ordeal. He was happy to just have a feed and a nap while paramedics marveled at how lucky the little fellow was. He was strapped into the pram and it is doubtful whether he would have survived if this hadn't been the case.

This amazing incident was captured on CCTV and every newspaper in the country has the video available for viewing.

Railway authorities have been concerned that something like this would happen sooner rather than later after other near-miss incidents. This near tragedy comes very soon after warnings were issued about pram safety at railway stations.

Whilst this mother and baby both live to tell the story, the incident demonstrates how easily a pram can take off with the baby in it. Some years ago in Adelaide, a pram toppled into a lake and the baby drowned. I guess all Aussie Mums will be checking the brakes on their prams to avoid anything remotely like this happening to their babies.

I saw that on the news last night. Horrifying! What a miracle it was that the baby survived.
