Austin Jack Decoster. A Stain on Iowa Agriculture?

Egg Recall No Surprise?

Sherry Tomfeld
Austin Jack Decoster, a businessman connected to two Iowa egg farms, is no stranger to "bad" business and agricultural violations. Yet this man was allowed to take part in raising America's food and being a part of Iowa's agriculture. The question is why Austin Jack Decoster is allowed to be part of such an important job, feeding Americans.

Austin Jack Decoster has a history of breaking good agricultural practices. A farm in Turner, Maine was described as a sweatshop, deplorable and unsafe. A fine of $2 million was levied on him. On to Iowa where he was tagged a "habitual violator" and not allowed to start up any new farms.

From there we find Austin Jack Decoster being sued by Mexican women who said that they were sexually harassed (including rape) and a settlement was reached. Decoster egg farms were raided at least 3 times for illegal immigrants working there.

So why is Austin Jack Decoster allowed near food that humans are to consume? How many violations should a person get before you just pull the plug and say "you're out of the food and agricultural business"?

Where is this huge egg recall and Austin Jack Decoster's past violations leading us? More government control of our food. Decoster isn't the only violator, there are many, but I fear this is the one that opens the door for more government.

How about this instead? 1. Hire legal Americans to fill the jobs. 2. Pay a good wage with benefits. 3. Hire more food inspectors and make sure that they are above reproach. 4. IF a company violates rules, shut them down until they can run a safe product.

Instead I believe the government will finally implement it's food radiating program. There are many who do not want to see this happen. But I think a crisis like this egg recall will open the door wide for it. And unless you raise your own eggs, meat and veggies, you will have to buy what is offered by the government run food business.

We don't know exactly what happened in this latest egg recall. Was it something related to Austin Jack Decoster? Decoster's Wright County egg farm is certainly right in the middle of it all. I suspect we might find that it was in the feed that was used. Whatever caused it, shouldn't Iowa be looking at business men like Decoster? Iowa is known as the bread basket. With people like Austin Jack Decoster, Iowa has a huge agricultural PR problem on its hands.

Ineresting, thanks for the info. I'm not an egg eater,so I don't fit the average of 250 eggs/year by any stretch!

All anyone has to do is cook eggs and not eat them raw. This is easy right?

I would not put faith in anything from Iowa. After all, that is the state that continues to elect Tom Harkin.
