Austin is a city that is enriched in culture and ripe with diversity. Residents of the city, fondly referred to as Austinites, are proud of their home town, especially in the LGBT community. There are various stores that were created with LGBT individuals in mind, and serve the community some of the finest items available.

The BookWoman store, which is located at 5501 North Lamar, #A-105, leads the local women's rights and feminist movement in Austin. Their books are centered on bringing the very best to women and the LGBT as a whole. There are countless opportunities that the store offers to the public, such as award winning books for sale, book reading and signings by authors, book groups, and monthly reading programs. There are also teen and youth books readily available for sale. This book store, which has been in the Austin area for over 34 years, was originally housed on Guadalupe Street in the upstairs section of a store. Since then, the size and demand for BookWoman has grown extensively, thus resulting to their current home today.

A popular clothing store in the Austin area is Tung Gear. This store has taken to the Internet, as TungGear.com offers stylish clothing, shoes and accessories for lesbians. There are intimates for women, such as boy shorts, thongs, panties and women's white boy briefs. There are clearance items that are also available through the website, such as shoes. TungGear.com has become a fashion statement for Austin residents as well as the lesbian community throughout the U.S. There is shipping available to the continental United States, as depicted in their website. This store has become the epitome of lesbian clothing for the Austin area, and many local women are happy to support the Tung company.

A popular grocery store in Austin is Central Market. Central Market is the brain child of the local H-E-B grocery stores. Central Market is located in several locations throughout Austin, including the popular Lamar location. This grocery store offers a myriad of activities for all residents of the city to enjoy, including cooking school classes, book signings by celebrity chefs, a healthy foods section, organic groceries, fresh flowers, a 5 star bakery, as well as catered foods. Central Market goes above and beyond what most grocery stores have to offer, as they are a main sponsor in many events throughout the city, such as SXSW, a mecca for anyone in the music industry. Central Market also showcases local musicians, and is a main employer for many of the LGBT in the community. Their website, which is located at www.CentralMarket.com, offers the latest information on this popular grocery store chain.

With numerous stores in the Austin area that cater to the LGBT community, there is no shortage of locations where lesbians and gays can feel right at home.
