Australia Vacations - Sydney Travel Tips

Kerry Mulherin
Travel to Sydney, Australia to explore the many unusual landmarks. The Harbour Bridge and the unique Opera House with it's massive, white sail like structure. Sydney truly is a sight to behold. Book your airfares and plan for a whole week. Use this simple guide and do it on a budget!

Book an inner city Hotel and commute on foot or public transport. Hotels start at around $AUD120.00 per night for 4 Star accommodation. Like most cities in Australia, Sydney has a wonderful public transport system. Free bus services are available in most parts of Australia within the CBD. There's even a monorail in Sydney which travels the city constantly from 7.00a.m. until late. Once aboard, grab a brochure with the monorail map and the list of all things to see at each stop off point. Buy a day pass and travel all day long for around $8.00-$10.00.

Stop off the monorail at various points to eat some lunch and go window shopping. Sydney's Centrepoint Tower comes to mind. This is the highest lookout point in the city at over 700 ft. where you will enjoy a fantastic panoramic view as far as the eye can see.

Oz-Trek is yet another unique adventure. Once inside the gigantic 3D cinema you embark on a virtual tour across Australia. The seating is all motion geared and you will feel as though you have been transported to the various areas of the Outback, across cities and up into the wild tropics. Visit Ayers Rock from a bird's eye point of view!

Tip: Buy a combo ticket for some of these sights. A ticket to see the Aquarium and Oz-Trek, as well as seeing Sydney from Centrepoint Tower is around $50 per adult.

Disembark at Darling Harbour and visit the fabulous Sydney Aquarium. See the gigantic Manta Rays and terrifying Great White sharks before boarding your chosen vessel for a late afternoon harbour cruise. If you'd rather catch your breath first, grab a cold beer at one of the harbourside bars and take in the sights as they pass you by. Sydney is full of interesting characters. Choose a later cruise and dine in style right on the water instead of in town.

Ask your Hotel clerk for a tourist guide and book some tickets to see a live show at the Sydney Entertainment and Convention Center. Stop by the Casino afterwards and try your luck at any one of thousands of gaming tables and slot machines. Visit Sydney's very own Chinatown and dine on some authentic cuisine.

Take the monorail to Museum Underground station and grab a map. Sydney has some rather unique trains which are double decker. Splendid views of the countryside from upstairs can't be compared to anything else. Pack a picnic lunch and tour the outlying areas for the day before returning to the city in the afternoon for a lobster dinner. Take a tour of the Opera House which also happens to be home to several very fancy restaurants.

Take a water taxi across the harbor to the north shore. Visit Manly beach for a swim in one of Sydney's finest beaches, or stop in at Taronga Park Zoo for a wild afternoon.

Sydney has a myriad of adventures just waiting for you. The people are friendly, the weather is great and the sight seeing is like nowhere else you could imagine.
