Australian Actor Liam Hemsworth Wins Miley Cyrus' Affections on and Off the Screen

Although he won't be riding down Asgard's Rainbow Bridge anytime soon, it is still good to be Liam Hemsworth these days. The Australian native appears in the upcoming drama "The Last Song" and, after dating in secret, he can now openly refer to singing sensation Miley Cyrus as his girlfriend.

Hemsworth followed his brothers into acting

Born in Australia, Liam Hemsworth comes from an acting family, which explains why he followed his brothers into show business. Known for his work on such local Australian television shows as "Neighbours" and "The Elephant Princess," Hemsworth came to America to audition for the lead role in "Thor," which is based on the popular Marvel Comics character.

Although his brother Chris ultimately won the coveted lead role in "Thor," Liam received one heck of a consolation prize by landing the romantic lead in "The Last Song." Based on the novel by Nicholas Sparks, "The Last Song" focuses on an estranged father and daughter that reconnect through music.

In "The Last Song," Hemsworth plays Will Blakelee, the romantic interest for Miley Cyrus' character. Although Cyrus has been conspicuously silent about their relationship, the "Hannah Montana" star finally revealed that they were more than just good friends during an interview on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show." Liam Hemsworth is a nice-looking young man, but Cyrus said that when he opened the door for her during their first meeting, that simple, polite gesture won her over.

One would think that Hemsworth would have to get the blessing of Miley's dad, Billy Ray Cyrus, but the opposite has been true. According to a recent article on AceShowBiz.com, Hemsworth took his leading lady home to Australia to meet the family. The Hemsworth clan took a liking to young Miley and she, in turn, liked the fact that cameras weren't following her everywhere.
