Australian PGA Won by Robert Allenby

Victorian and veteran Robert Allenby with a cool head has convincingly won the Australian PGA by four shots. Amongst a throng of predominantly outstanding aussie golfers and a few internationals Robert Allenby showed he was composed and mature, not making too many mistakes to take the title. Never the show off, Allenby showed not only his competitive nature, but also his dignified side by not showboating.

According to foxsports.com.au Allenby said "It was nice feeling coming down the last with a four-shot lead."

The setting was the beautiful and recently rebuilt first six holes of the Hyatt Regency at Coolum in Queensland, Australia. The final day fortunately not sweltering heat, but a little overcast. The lack of wind today did somewhat
confuse some golfers. Quite a few shooting short to the greens.

John Senden, who had a shocking day on day one followed with three rounds of 67 to only be four shots behind. Scott Strange appeared the biggest threat with the tightest game, also finishing four shots off the lead.
The Kirkwood Cup has been won by Robert Allenby four times now and after not such a wonderful year on the course, Allenby in the last two weeks seems to have found his game. Only a week ago he won a tournament in Sun City.

Crowd watching was interesting as the literally colourful John Daly was in the field and showed moments of brilliance and truly a drawcard. Coverage lacked much of Daly's performance however, the lighter and meaner Daly is a force to watch in the near future with his short game on the improve. Australian golf can only benefit by having internatiomals like Daly and recently Tiger Woods performing for the Aussie public. Although not on the podium like Woods recently, Daly dazzled the crowd by his presence alone.

The ultimate Queensland based pro Adam Scott ended in a water bath dropping shots at the end faster than a man with no arms at a darts contest finishing in a position disprortional to his efforts and talent. Adam recently won the Australian open.

Michael Sim, another Australian, shot the lowest score in the last four days of the top finishers and shows promise. A low key player that should be watched by fans and sponsors alike. Not to be dismissed, Rod pampling also shot a 65 along with Sim this week. Sim, with his efforts secured his rights to play the 2010 US PGA tour.

The event at Coolum had a modicum of spectators but seems to be attracting more interest with media coverage. High profile players can only help even if they are not at the top of their game. Finally, Australian golf might be finding it's feet and becoming more appealing to touring professionals.
