Author Changing the Way People Think About Work With Choosing Joy at Work
Joy at Work, is it Possible?
CHOOSING JOY AT WORK
If we were to make a conscious effort to happier and we wanted to select one single large chunk of our life to work on first, what segment might it be?
Talk Show Expert Guest Roger Wyer identifies this "invisible" segment of our life in the first minute of our interview and your audience will be amazed at the hidden goldmine of Joy that exists in a place they weren't even looking.
Roger Wyer explains that if we were to divide a 24-hour day into thirds, three equal parts of 8 hours each, the first would 8 hours of sleep, the second would be 8 hours for work, and the third third (sound like we're stuttering) would be 8 hours for everything else.
Since we can't consciously do much about sleep since we're unconscious through it, and most of us can't significantly cut down on many activities we've already over packed into our miscellaneous 8 hours, that leaves work as the final frontier for Joy.
Did we hear this right? Joy at work? Well, with 8 hours or more spent per day working, doesn't it make sense for it to be a joyful experience?
Of course, but is it possible? "YES," says Wyer.
SAMPLE JOY TIPS:
Joy is absolutely what we want from life. Everything we do is designed in some way to bring us joy.
Joy is everywhere. It's in the air around us, ready to be plucked like a ripe peach off a tree. We see it, smell it, taste it, touch it, and hear it. Most wonderful of all, we can create it instantly in our mind. And it's contagious to boot!
Joy is a choice. You don't have to wait for it to happen to you, to be bestowed upon you by others, or to win the lottery. You have the power to make it so.
You can have joy now. We go around doing and buying in order to get joy. But, we don't have to wait for the weekend, for our vacation, or for retirement: we can have joy now!
Joy changes the way we see work. When there's joy at work, I'll come early and stay late. Sure, I'd like a raise, but I'm certainly not going down the street to get it if that means risking my joy.
Happy people produce more. Joy is good business. And it doesn't take a lot of time or cost a bunch of money.
How?
·Reconnect with joy from the past.
·See joy around you.
· Experiment with ways to bring joy around more often, make it last longer, and spread it around.
