"Sins of Thy Mother"

Most of you know that I am currently writing a 31-day devotional that will be published this fall called "Who is this Jesus"? The book was birthed out of my desire to share Jesus Christ with the Word. The format of the devotional outlines the birth, ministry, death, resurrection and accession of Jesus. You will be able to connect with
Jesus in a tangible way as you write down your thoughts and impressions of what God is doing in and through you as you journal daily.

I first fell in love with reading when I spent hours at the library as a child. I remember devouring short stories because as I read them I could imagine myself living out the story I was reading. As life became
busy, I read less and less and then two years ago when I was in ministry school my love for reading was revived again. At first it was because the reading was required and then later on reading became as
natural as breathing and because of this, I am dedicating September to authors that have poured out their hearts to share their passion with the masses.

Today, I want you to meet author Keisha Kuma and learn more about her latest work "Sins of Thy Mother".

YAHOO: Good afternoon Keisha. Thanks so much for speaking with us today.

KK: Thank you for having me. I am so excited for this opportunity.

YAHOO: Keisha, for those that don't know you, please tell us where you are from?

KK: I am from Decatur, GA that's just right outside of Atlanta.

YAHOO: Did where you grew up make an impression on you? If so, was that a good or bad impression?

KK: I think the place that one grows up always makes an impression. I grew up in an environment that was full of love, support, trials, tribulations and triumphs. It made me resilient, compassionate and gave me a strength I didn't know I had until this year when I lost my mom to cancer, was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis and then lost my dad tocardiac arrest.

YAHOO: Tell us, when did you first know you'd be writing a book?

KK: Hmm I guess in 1995 when all my friends asked me what happened with Dominique in a short story I did for a creative writing class. I never thought of taking the story beyond what was there, but when I reread it I found myself wanting to know what happened next as well.

YAHOO: Where did the title "Sins of Thy Mother" come from?

KK: The original title of the book was "Intimate relations", then "Collateral Intimacies" and I wasn't happy with either of those titles so I sent some of the book to one of my best friends, Laurence Kraehe, he sent me back 5 titles that he thought fit the story. I saw "Sins of Thy Mother" and loved it. Each one of the characters is suffering not from just the decisions they have made, but the decisions their mothers made. Each character tries so hard to overcome the mistakes and catastrophes their mother' have made, but find it almost impossible to
overcome.

YAHOO: Without giving too much away, what will people learn from reading this book?

KK: That our destinies are all ours for the taking. So many times we limit ourselves based on our fears. A fear of loving. A fear of failure, or just a fear of making the wrong decision. Sometimes it is just life and all that it comes with. Most people seem amazed that this is the year I finished this book with all that has occurred in my life
this year. I'm not. This is the year God showed me my strength, slowed me down enough to focus on my gift and placed all the right people in my path to ensure I succeeded.

When people read "Sins of THY Mother" they will be blown away by the twists and turns that this familiar story takes. The story is familiar because in life we all experience Life, Death, Love and Loss. The twists come when these characters make decisions to escape their mother's sins and create sins of their own that push them all together in one big collision. There are casualties, but faith is the one thing that can cure a child of their mother's sins. Faith is the one thing that saves us all from our sins.

YAHOO: I understand that your official book launch will be September 8, 2010? Can you tell us where you will have your official launch?

KK: The book release date is September 8th, which also happens to be my birthday. I chose this date because this will be the first birthday I have without my mother, so I had to give birth to something to ensure I
remembered how blessed I truly am. The official launch is September 15th at Glenwood East Sky loft in Atlanta, GA 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm. It will be a Sip. Shop. and Sign. With Sinless Margarita, Jolie Boutique and Me!!

YAHOO: Will your book be available to purchase on-line? If so, how can people purchase a copy?

KK: Yes People can purchase online at www.sinsofthymother.com or www.barnesandnoble.com It will also be coming to www.amazon.com

YAHOO: Keisha, can you give aspiring authors any advice on how to begin writing?

KK: Sit down and just write. It sounds so easy, but it's not. And if you are looking to publish do your research. I have made a lot of mistakes, but it's a learning experience. I don't know of any successes that haven't begun with a few mistakes.

YAHOO: Thank you so much for sharing your heart and your book "Sins of Thy Mother" with us today. I wish you continued success!

KK: Thank you for having me. I hope your audience logs on to www.sinsofthymother.com to learn more about me, and purchase my novel. I plan to have the second one out next year. There will be an excerpt from the upcoming book in the back of "Sins of Thy Mother". Thank you again for having me.
