Author Kimberly Bridges Interview

Author of the Book Death Equity

Cassie Mae
I have had the wonderful opportunity to interview author Kimberly Bridges. Ms. Bridges wrote the phenomenal book "Death Equity." This book is a thriller that is filled with suspense, romance and drama.

1) Kimberly, at what age did you realize you live to write?

I have been writing since I was 7. I have stacks of writing from then. I never really did think about writing for a living until just a few years ago.

2) I know you have three Master's Degrees. How do you find the time with five children?

I had to schedule my time very carefully and not allow for any distractions. I think the continuous education was clearly the passion for writing.

3) Do you see your love of writing in any of your children?

No, they think creatively as I do but do not express their creativity through writing but other outlets.

4) What surrounding is your perfect place to write?

In a small cafe that is quiet.

5) Where did you get the idea for your book Death Equity?

I actually talked to a coworker about it when I worked in a hospital as my mind was wandering about 'what ifs' throughout the hospital. I came up with the idea. I was told prior to writing it that the government would take me out because there is so much truth in it. Death Equity did not turn out to be the original idea as I changed it up quite a bit throughout the writing process.

6) I have read Death Equity and absolutely loved your book. I hope your book becomes a movie. Do you think this may happen?

Well, I am really excited that you loved it. I have heard from many people the same request for a movie. I do not have control over the book becoming a movie. I am currently writing the screenplay and would absolutely love for Death Equity to become a movie. There really is no guarantee though.

7) So, you are writing other movies too?

I do have a couple of screenplays that I am working on. I freaked out my screenplay instructor and class with one of them which told me it was good. At least I knew they actually read it with the many questions and responses I received.

8) Do you have an agent?

No. An agent would probably be better for me because I love to write screenplays and fiction but the part I do not enjoy is what an agent could probably do for me. I have not spent any time looking for an agent.

9) Has anyone told you that you may have a twisted mind in a good way?

Ha. Well, with some of my writing I have heard comments similar to this while wickedly capturing readers. My goal with my writing is for the response. So if the readers think I am a little nuts at least they didn't walk away and have absolutely nothing to say. To me, it is much worse for someone not to feel anything about my writing. If I can spark any emotion at all it is good for me.

A good example would be after Death Equity was published. I had a friend read the book and call me half way through. She had guessed how the book would turn out and was entirely wrong. I had angered her so much that she was yelling at me on the phone. I loved it because of the response.

10) Do you have advice for other people who want to write a book?

Don't talk about it. Do it.

11) How would a person who wrote a book go about finding a publisher?

There are hundreds of literary publishers. With the economy today, many are not taking chances on new writers. All you can do is perfect the query letter and send them out. You should research the publishers and find the one that fits the genre of your book and a publisher that looks like one that is right for you.

12) Do you have plans to write anymore books?

My second book will be coming out this year. It is just as 'crazy' as Death Equity, but it is not a part two.

It has been a pleasure interviewing you. Thank you so much for sharing your insights. Best of luck to you with your book Death Equity and future movie!

You bet!
