Autism: Benefits of Early Intervention

Jenny Heart
Even the simplest of disorders can benefit from early intervention. Early intervention provides more options earlier on in a specific child's life. Finding the right doctor is essential, and will prove beneficial in the long term care of the child. The wrong doctor can have you running around from one doctor to the next without results.

Know the early symptoms of autism, and if you think your child has any of these symptoms, contact your pediatrician. Some of the early signs of autism are:

Verbal outbursts

Feelings of disconnecting between one another.

Learning problems

What is the best treatment for these types of individuals? Each person is different and needs special consideration into which medication and treatment options are best suited for their situation.

The right doctor usually prescribes medication that will help the person who has Autism . Medications and counseling should help start the person with Autism on a more functional able life.

With the right doctor making the right diagnosis and giving guidance to the family, Autism doesn't have to be a scary word. It is all very beneficial in the long run to provide counseling from the start and keep close tabs on your child's progress. These are all beneficial in the long term care of this illness. With early intervention, the benefits are endless. You can breath again, laugh again, and share time with your child again, where before, sharing time meant screaming, fighting, hitting, or even injuring himself. These are all signs that can worsen without early intervention from your doctor.

Counseling as mentioned before is one of the most important things you can do for your whole family. What affects your child, will affect the whole family unit, so keep it strong, by getting all members involved sharing their feelings in counseling. Getting emotions out into the open is just the beginning to change old patterns from frustrated old ones to fresh new ones. Walk in your child's shoes when you are having trouble understanding, and you will see this will help you have a more positive experience, than if you only see it from your side.

The right school is important to their overall success. Some communities have special schools; especially for children with autism. If you can't find a school that specializes in this field, you may want to talk to your school of choice, and speak to the special education teacher about your child. Discuss your child's behavior patterns and ask about setting up an IEP (Individual Education Program). If the teacher doesn't feel she can benefit your child, you can ask her for suggestions.

You could also try home schooling although your child would not be interacting with other children, which is vital, so the child can become more socially active. You know your child better than anyone else. Weigh all your options and, with the help of your doctor, special education teacher, and counselor, you will find the answers to best to help your child.

Personal Experience and knowledge: Someone I love the doctors said had some of these symptoms. Even though the person didn't have Autism the person did have some of the characteristic and went down similar roads of anguish.
