Auto Insurance Discounts for Senior Citizens
Saving Money for Mature Drivers Who Are Retired and Living on Fixed Incomes
A driver is considered a mature driver starting at the age of 50. Many insurance companies have rating classes for senior citizens that are broken up into the age ranges of 50-74, 75-79, 80-84, 85-89, and 90+ years. These rating classes offer lower insurance premiums than what are offered to adult and youthful drivers. These rating classes offer even lower rates to senior citizens who are retired and/or drive occasionally. It is important for the mature driver to let their insurance company know how often they drive and how many miles they drive annually on average.
Some insurance companies offer special discounts in addition to these different rating classes. The Mature Driving Discount is often offered to senior citizens who have completed a Mature Drivers' Defensive Driving Course through their state's Department of Motor Vehicles. Senior citizens should inquire about this discount and any other defensive driving courses offered in their state. Another discount that is offered by insurance companies is a Good Driver Discount. Senior citizens can receive this discount by keeping a clean driving record for several years. A clean driving record means that the mature driver has not received a traffic violation or had an at fault accident. This discount encourages the senior citizen drivers to drive safely and in a responsible manner.
Whether you are just now becoming a mature driver, or you are a senior citizen living on a fixed income, it is important to know and inquire about special auto insurance discounts that are available to help you save money as you shop for auto insurance.
