Auto Maintenance Tips from the Technicians

Take Care of Your Vehicle and it Will Last

We have become accustomed to buying a car and a few years later, trading that in and buying something else "new". So if you happened to be one of those people, either man or woman, who is clueless when it comes to automobiles, you probably don't quite get the maintenance thing. When you buy that new car, you read through the information they give you and think, it's brand new, so I don't have to do anything, but drive and put gas in.

Well that sounds good anyway. However, if you are buying a "new" car, it is more important than ever to understand what the maintenance schedule is and why you should do it. Just driving and putting gas in will certainly carry you for a while with your car, but it will also start a series of problems that will eventually bring the demise of your auto. If you are a trader every few years, the problem just becomes someone else's worry. In this economy though, many people are opting to hold on to those vehicles a while longer.

The scheduled maintenance intervals set up by the manufacturer give you timely suggestions for various parts of your car. Every time you go past the recommended mileage for your oil change, the motor is building sludge that clogs all the pipes. This makes it impossible for the other working parts to get properly lubricated. The result is parts wear out faster. If you skip a cooling system service, and the corrosion inhibitors become depleted, and the radiator starts to wear out, you are one step closer to a failure.

Transmission service, power brakes, and fuel system cleaning are all vital parts of your maintenance schedule. The manufacturer did not recommend that you have these things done because they wanted you to spend money. It is necessary to keep your automobile running at the best possible level.

Other important tips include keeping good tires on your car. Running bald tires is bad for ball joints, axles and other undercar mechanical parts.

If you can afford to buy a new car every couple of years, you probably will never do the required maintenance as scheduled. If you are a long term car owner, you really should consider adjusting your habits. Keeping your auto running at its best, eliminates big repair bills and major breakdowns. It also guarantees you will not have to start looking for a new car for years to come.
