The first step to replace an electric car window is to make certain that you have purchased the proper replacement parts. One these are obtained, close the car window tightly and tape it into place by using duct tape so it does not slip while repairs are being performed. Next, remove the interior door access panel and the window remote control panel. Disconnect the electrical connector usually located on the bottom of the switch panel, and then remove the door panel exposing the door insulation. Gently remove the door insulation so as not to create a tear in it, and place the insulation aside while repairs are performed.
The next action in the process to replace an electric window motor is to disconnect the electrical connector from the window motor. After this is done, remove the window regulator mounting bolts and then remove the regulator and window motor, paying very close attention to exactly how the window components were attached and positioned. Install the new window regulator and electric window motor in the correct position, and then simply replace the door insulation and interior door components in the reverse order of how they were removed. When the entire window assembly has been reassembled, remove the duct tape from the window and check your repair by raising and lowering the window.
The keys to successfully replacing an electric window motor lies in the ability to ensure that the replacement parts are positioned correctly and that all new electrical connections are fitted tightly. While the repair itself is pretty straightforward, taking the time to study the original position of the window components can save a good deal of head scratching later. Also, use caution when installing an electric window motor as they are very powerful an can cause a serious injury to a misplaced finger.
