With Autogenic training you can teach your body to response to your verbal commands. With these commands you tell your body to relax, and control your breathing, heartbeat, body temperature and blood pressure. Practicing this daily can have great benefits, over time you can go into a deeper relaxation and reduce stress.
A German psychiatrist named Johannes Schultz developed this technique and published it in 1932.
You can do this by sitting in a comfortable chair or lying down. There are 6 standard exercises. First you start with controlled breathing. Then you moves to other parts of the body, arms,legs, abdomen, hands, feet and head. With These commands the desire is to feel warm, heavy and relaxed. I had to do this a few times before I felt this feeling. Persistence is key.
Using verbal and visual imagination to relax your body takes time for some individuals. This involves a daily practice of sessions that last about 15 minutes. This can be done 3 times a day, in the morning, afternoon and evening. Twice a day would work also if you don't have time to do this 3 times a day. You need to repeat a set of visualisations 3 to 6 times each, this will put you in a state of relaxation.
This technique parallels yoga and meditation. Practicing this technique, over time you can experience a state of mental peace, relaxation and bodily health.
If you become proficient at this you can use this to overcome addictions. It depends on how good you get at Autogneic training and the severity of the problem that you are trying to overcome.
You can find a professional AT trainer online or you can purchase a CD that will lead you through the steps. It should take about 3 months of training to learn how to do this the right way and get the most out of AT. Of course some people can learn this faster.
This works with the power of the mind and how skilled you get at this practice differs from individual to individual.
Autogenic means "self-regulation". This practice teaches the mind to influence your bodies heart rate, breathing, circulation and so on.
There are 6 phases:
Phase 1-Heaviness
Phase 2-Warmth
Phase 3-Calm Heart
Phase 4-Breathing
Phase 5-Stomach
Phase 6-Cool forehead
This takes time and hard work. It is a gradual process. How good you get at mastering this depends on your own desire.
You can find books of this nature in your local library or online. They will tell you just how to go about practicing this technique.
There is a book called " Autogenic Training " "The holistic way to better health" by Dr. Kai Kermani that is a good read.
If you want to learn about spiritual healing, this is a good practice to start with.
If you are taking prescribed medications or have any severe disease you should consult your doctor before doing this technique. Do not stop any medications with out the consent of your doctor.
