Automatic Marionette

Robert Vinciguerra

He is so hollow within himself
He knows only that inside there lies a shelter; in the empty space
Familiar refuge; a comforting place to hide
Protection from wickedness he faces; the world that he finds
And he will take his time before emerging; once again

His former forgotten lover
Drilled a hole straight into and through his head
All of the fond memories of his un-subsisted love, accumulated
Escaped into the air; scattered and disbursed within the atmosphere
He does not know, nor even realize that they were ever there
Only knowing all to well the hollowness, his companion, always here

At first she was mechanical
She did not heal, she did not feel
Her self-medication controlled her heart
And numbed her mind and soul again

Now as the time it passes over her
She cannot be; cannot bear what she has chosen to become
An automatic marionette, strung along
She did not want to praise herself as a fool again
Though a fool is what she's become; she knows

And now the world has become a catacomb
An endless maze trapped away, far from the truth
And all along its wreaking corridors lie the corpses of decaying rotting trust
Fate seeps in swiftly and seals the tomb while they are lost within
Inescapable, is time for their timeless tragedy to rebirth again
