The automotive technician has to be well trained in alot of areas to be good enough to make a living at it and the technician that is well trained can bring home six figures or more. Having all your certifications are just the first step in the process and formal training either in a school that teaches it or a military training in your area that you like is a price you pay to get the proper foundation for a rewarding career in the automotive field.
When you get some training you are ready to work in the field except you have to walk before you can run so get in a program that has on the job training or work part time while in school to get your feet wet and you will find this to get you well on your way to becoming a good technician. Don't expect your training instructor to be able to teach you everything you will need to know or you will have a false sence of security that will lead to make mistakes.
When you finish school and get some ASE (automotive service excelence) certifications under your belt, you can start working full time as a line technician or helper till you get more experience and learn as your career progresses. Top techs have many years of experience and worked hard to get there and you will too with alot of work and training to get you there.
The technicians and employeers today know that to succeed in the trade you now have to have alot of electical and elotronics background. This used to be a speciaity area and only a select few had to have it. Now all technicians need to be able to work on and test electronics in automotibles since allmost allthe systems in them work with some sort of electronics. There is multible modules with its own network to link them all together so they can communicate to operate all the comforts we now enjoy.
Your training will never end and the technicians and owners or dealers have understand that we are indead technicians ans the mechanics are left by the way side and left behind. Become a technician and your career will grow with the industry and the changes to come.

Post a CommentThe problem really is money! Most technicians make less than about $25 an hour. With all the expensive tools and constant study needed, the job just isn't worth it! The pay for a qualifed Master Technician should be a minimum of $50 an hour! The reward must match the technician's investment in his career.
Exactly how many tecs do you know who make 6 figures? 2?
