Autumn Apparel - Fall Fashions for the Feminine Figure

Falling for Fashion

Sweater weather is coming soon;
The autumn wind will sing his tune.
Let's don layers upon us all
In earthy colors, the hues of fall.

Who doesn't love fall fashions?

Autumn colors flatter nearly everyone. Rich jewel tones (burgundy, caramel, chocolate, copper, eggplant, mocha, olive, rust, and more) give almost any skin tone a healthy glow. These are the colors of nature, which echo skin and hair hues for many folks.

As fall fashions emerge, we can rejoice in the reappearance of our favorite textures and fabrics: brushed cotton, corduroy, flannel, fleece, leather, suede, velour, velvet and wool. Plaids and tweeds abound! Cozy knits, welcome back!

As a general rule, solid-colored textiles are popular this fall. Save the busy patterns for another season. Mix and match your favorite colors, as you select wardrobe pieces: tops, bottoms, hosiery and more.

Of course, black and white are still staples.

What are the best-dressed women wearing this fall? Here's a quick round-up.

Dresses

Nope, it's not a misprint. Women are dressing up again, even for a girls' night out. Swingy empire dresses, flouncy frocks, and tailored dresses are making a comeback. Toss on a bold belt, and you're in!

Jeans

Count your blessings! Skinny jeans are shrinking away, and simple, tailored styles are back. Look for darker washes for high-fashion. Sequins, tatters, glitzy embroidery, and other embellishments are disappearing.

Trousers

Lose the low-cut pants! Higher waists are coming back. (Can you hear everyone over 30 celebrating?) Pleated pants are positively a thing of the past. No one wants a popping pleat pouch!

Wider, straighter legs are the look this year. These flatter almost any figure. Head for the fitting room, and try on trousers to be sure the front crease hangs straight to the floor.

Skirts

Straight or swingy, pleated or pencil, all of the skirts are longer this fall. Miracles happen! The miniskirt is gone! (Save it for your beach vacation.)

Tops

Longer is better! Savvy stylists are baring bellies no more! The layered look still flies, but the top layer now falls below the waist. Even skinny tees and tanks are longer.

Classic polo shirts, ruffled peasants, and collared blouses are everywhere. Tailoring is tops!

Jackets

Jackets and vests polish off professional outfits. Stylish and swingy jackets add fun. Boyish blazers beef up a basic look. Button an ultra-tailored jacket over a lacy camisole for a classy look with just a hint of allure.

On warmer days, an unbuttoned menswear shirt over a colorful tank or tee is the rage.

Hosiery

Leggings and tights add warm personality to dresses and skirts. Keep an eye out for hot new monochromatic textures and patterns! Hosiery comes in all the autumn colors this fall, so you can accent your attire.

Shoes

Flats are fun! Find your flip-flops until the first frost. Sophisticated pumps, slings, and sandals are still in style. Pointy toes are slipping out.

Accessories

Basic bags are the best! Look for handy clutches, portable pocketbooks, and fun boxy styles.

Coordinating beads, baubles, pendants and scarves complete the look. Have fun with color this fall!

If you have a real eye for style, why not poke around in vintage shops for unusual pieces from the past?

YAY ! Maybe everyone will quit running around half naked or looking like they just fell out of bed. I am a fan of dressing up... even if I don't have anywhere to go. :)
