Autumn Child's Craft: How to Make an Autumn Leaves String of Garland

Fun and Educational Kids Craft Project for School or Home

Slate Stone
This is a fun kids craft that is very inexpensive and can be educational.

This craft is best done in the fall when the leaves are turning beautiful autumn colors.

Take a look around your yard with your child and identify some of the trees. If you are unsure what certain trees are, generally a neighbor will know or you can consult the internet or wikipedia to at least find the main family of trees.

Collect a variety of autumn leaves both in color and shape. Place these leaves in a paper grocery bag or in a bucket. Bring the leaves inside and lay them on newspaper and pat them dry in case they have retained any visible dew or moisture.

Cut a long string of jute or string or yarn in an autumn color. The color can be brown or yellow or gold or red or green or orange to be appropriate for the natural autumn color theme.

Evenly space out the leaves across the string and adhere the stem to the garland by using either glue or a stapler or tying a knot. Be sure to make the string longer than the garland of leaves.

Hang and diaplay your Autumn Leaves String of Garland as a Fall colors decoration, or Thanksgiving decoration or even a Halloween decoration.

If you do not have colorful autumn leaves at the time you want to create this kids craft, you can alternately have a child draw the shapes of various leaves on colored cardstock or poster board or construction paper and make imitation autumn leaves to create the same effect. To keep this kids craft project educational, however, have the child identify the types of leaves they are drawing and naming what tree they would hypothetically come from.

Enjoy this fun kids craft!
