Autumn Morning Announcement

A Cool Awakening

David A. Reinstein, LCSW

When it is dark in the morning
And the night has not yet awakened
Something seems not quite right
Having been spoiled by summer's
Early light.
Autumn announces itself.

When the chill hangs in the air
Until the fall fog dissipates
And by mid-morning
The sky begins to look clear,
I become uncertain about
Which clothes to wear.
Autumn announces itself.

The season page is turning
As it has for millennia
And, hopefully, will continue
To do so
Despite the gunk we pour into the air
From the things we are burning;
We are quick with the acting
And slow with the learning.

The crisp snap of cool, damp,
Lurking night mystery
Revealed as the alarm clock
Announces
That no matter how it looks
Or how it feels,
Or whether we would choose it or not
It is time to awaken
And immerse ourselves
In the day we have got.
Autumn announces itself
As the summer now passed
Is set on the back shelf.

Not looking forward to shorter days, but the cooler air is definitely being enjoyed after those extremely hot summer days.
