For many, the fall season is the perfect season. Balmy warm air minus the stifling heat and humidly of summer mixed with cool nights perfect for snuggling. Autumn afternoons are paradisiacal for antique shopping. Malls, fairs and flea markets all over the country take advantage of the outstanding weather to provide myriad antique shows, exhibits and marketplaces. Some of the very best are those that repeat yearly, gathering the best, most knowledgeable experts in the field. Newer antique enthusiasts do well when choosing exhibits closest to their homes.

Salt City Autumn Antiques Show

Much more than just antique pieces, this show also has several conservatorial experts on hand. Atendees are able to bring their own pieces from home to be inspected, ask questions and view demonstrations. Its held at the New York State Fairground in the huge Americraft Center of Progress Building. There is an average of 250 dealers on hand each year. Consults with the conservators are free. There is a restaurant on site and an array of presentations and displays.

Parking is free but an admission fee of $8.00 per day.

Marburger Farm Antique Show

Texas prides itself on being big on everything and this antique show is a testament to that belief. Each October 4th through the 8th in Round Top, Texas this show carries everything from toys and clothes to household appliances and furniture. Hundreds of experienced vendors attend each year. Presentations on refurbishing antiques and proper ways to show them off. Slide shows and Powerpoint presentations show how to distinguish garage sale pieces and attic finds. There is a $10 fee at the gate.

Scott Antique Markets

Scott Antique markets are more than just Autumn antique shows. They have the worlds largest antique show in their own warehouse each second week of the month and then a huge antique bizarre at the Ohio State Fairgrounds in Columbus, Ohio. Do-it-yourself projects are showcased here with many presentations on refinishing and identifying authentic antiques.

Antique festivals offer the best of several dealers. Antiques from miles away that the locals cant always find. Another advantage to going antiquing in the fall is that dealers will often save their best pieces for bigger festivals with more exposure to their work.
