Outside
Get started by covering up summer porch and deck furniture with protective covers or moving the furniture into storage. Those who live in the colder climates will not use the outside furniture. Consequently, storage is the best option. Wash down the deck or outside porch areas and give those areas a proper cleaning with a power sprayer. Check steps, patio, porch, deck, for cracks and repair them before the weather gets colder. This is also the time of year to give the outside of the windows a proper cleaning. Use the power washer for easy way to those hard to reach windows. Don't forget to spray wash siding, brick walls, and doors to bring them back to a glorious shine and sparkle.
Plants
Move all the potted plants inside the home before the first frost hits to protect plants from receiving damage and reduce shock. Transplant those plants to new pots with fresh new potting soil to keep them healthy during the transition and through the time they are indoors during the colder weather.
Home
Check doors and windows for air leaks. Repair windows and door stripping now before the cold weather hits. The window and door stripping stops cold weather from leaking into the home in the winter and helps reduce heating cost.
Inside
Autumn is an excellent time to change the inside decor to suit the new season. Start with the curtains. Change curtains in the main rooms to a complimentary fall color in browns, golds, orange. Add a decorative fall wreath to the front door to welcome guest. Place a few autumn toned candles in a group above a fireplace with decorative fall leaves or pine-cones arranged in an attractive manner. Add dried flowers in golds, yellows, and orange to a vase and place on a prominent table in the living room or dinning room for a fun decorative touch. Add a few throw pillows or covers in fall tones to the chairs.
Use the ideas here to welcome the new Autumn season with minimal effort.
