For the 2009 - 2010 Season

Do you want to keep up with the times and not look outdated? You can bring out some of your old jewelry and update it with a few new pieces. Here are the newest trends. See if you have any in your jewelry box.

Gold is back, but silver is still sticking around. Metallic beads are fresh. Sizes are smaller. Chains are accented with multiple layers and lots of charms.

That's not to say that statement jewelry is leaving the scene. You can still make your statement with bold florals in bright colors.

Pearls are making a comeback in elegant and sophisticated layers.

Swarovski crystals are everywhere along with faceted glass. Group together multiple pastel shades for a soft feminine look.

Victorian styles are here again, along with velvet ribbons.

Large ribbon bows can tie layers of necklaces together or pump up your handbag.

Chokers are multiple layers, often mixing crystals and pearls. (www.sewandso.etsy.com)

Fringes of feathers are the newest look.

Wire wrapped cabochons are hot. (http://www.flickr.com/photos/sewandso/3648444782/in/set-72157603870028797/)

And all these looks are landing on top of each other. You can fringe pearls and crystals. You can tie anything up with ribbon. And pair your velvet ribbons with your cameos, badges or crests for a statement choker.

And what are the colors? The traditional black and white is back, along with blue and white in porcelain. Add a bold accent of red, and your look is complete. But the blue and white should be nautical, while the black and white is refined and sophisticated.

Soft sunset pinks look good in rhodonite, lepidolite, and pink opal paired with black onyx and ebony for a handsome and tailored look.

Gemstones beads are hot. Moukaite jasper and red malachite in their deep orange and brown hues are popular along with black onyx. Red makes a strong statement in garnet this year. Deep purples in velvet and amethyst are good choices, but pair them with gold.
