Availability of Porn Stars to Serve as Escorts is Highlighted in the Wake of Charlie Sheen's Escapades

Charlie Sheen's escapades with a naked porn star in New York City last week have shined a light on the normally discreet and shadowy world of porn stars who moonlight in the escort business.

Given his good looks, fame and wealth, it would seem that Charlie Sheen would not need to pay for female companionship. Then again, his conduct during the night in question at the Plaza hotel, which allegedly included massive amounts of wine, cocaine and a violent temper tantrum, could be reason enough why he needs to compensate his dates.

Another potential reason that Sheen, and other famous men like him, end up paying for sex is that while they could easily find sex on their own, they cannot easily ensure silence from their sex partners.

Prostitution is often referred to as "the world's oldest profession". While the 'business' has been around since, it would seem, the beginning of time, the government battles it constantly in an attempt to eradicate it.

Earlier this year, for example, seven state attorney generals put pressure on free online ad service Craigslist to shut down its 'adult services' section, which was widely acknowledged to contain ads from escorts.

But as the Sheen situation in a famous luxury hotel highlights, there is no shortage of ways for men to find women willing to spend time for money. While Craigslist is a bare bones site with limited search functionality and no graphics, shutting it down would seem to simply cause people to look elsewhere.

At the higher ends of the cost spectrum, there are even websites that specialize in making introductions between men and porn stars. Sheen was found with porn star Capri Anderson, who is a lot better known now than she was before, but was still relatively famous in the porn industry. However Sheen found Anderson, however, websites with names such as 'Body Miracle' specialize in listing porn stars, what city they are visting and when, and what their hourly, or nightly rates are.

A recent report in the New York Daily News, in fact, highlighted the fact that in many luxury hotels in Manhattan, having access to a high end escort and/or porn star is really seen as an amenity of sorts for traveling business executives, celebrities and athletes.

It would seem that there seems to be little point to continue investing in the fight against prostitution. Working girls of all social and economic strata will always be out there, provided that there is always demand from men.

With Charlie Sheen's connections and money, he may not need a website to find a porn star; but for those 'average joes' out there, a night with a porn star such as Capri Anderson can be had relatively easily, despite the government's attempts to stop the activity.
