Avalanche Tents

For ages many individuals who went on geographic expedition expeditions in snowy mountain areas have used tents. The avalanche tents could be used in all four seasons. The design permitted for the tent to be heated by lamps or other devices it also held the wind to a minimum.

Explorers found the idea of an avalanche tent was a form of shelter should an avalanche happen. In theory the tent would ride on the surface of the rolling snow keeping the individual from being buried. Though the person would have to hold on for dear life to something inside the tent.

The need and use for avalanche tents have become near obsolete. The reason being that those today are trying to get to greater heights and the weight of the tent is just to much to be efficient. Also it's a fact that high winds often cause the tents to cave in and also at time have been carried away.

So, as an alternative to the avalanche tents rock shelters or small caves are replacing the tents as a means of shelter. According to research, this in some ways is better because of the reduction of wind. Although to others who know that some of the different types of avalanche tents in times past were capable of holding in heat disagree.

The avalanche tents also provided individuals with some form of survival in the unexpected event of an avalanche as well, and when no tent is carried then they ultimately disregard this added benefit of having a means of being found by rescue workers.

Some individuals also use what is known as snow caving now too, but there is a risk doing this. Should there be a large amount of snowfall the individual is basically trapped. Or in the event of an avalanche the same thing can happen. With the usage of the avalanche tents individuals were usually aware of what was going on quicker because of the material the tents are made of.
