Ava's Cranberry Recipe: Purity Organic Cranberries & Shop Rite Organic Jellied Cranberry Sauce Reviews

T. H. Pankey
Over the years, my wife's love of cranberries, particularly in the form of juice and jelly, has influenced me to like the little tart things more and more. I've always liked jellied cranberry sauce, but not so much cranberry juice, unless I added sugar or mixed it with orange or pineapple juice. But now, after making the following, very simple, organic cranberry recipe, using Purity Organic Cranberries and Shop Rite Organic Jellied Cranberry Sauce, I'm full pucker for them!

A Small Organic Cranberry Surprise

My little toddler daughter sits up on the counter and helps us prepare meals. I was having her pick out overly ripe cranberries from a clam shell of Purity Organic Cranberries--they had been in a refrigerator drawer for months--when after doing so for several minutes, she decided to dump the whole lot of remaining cranberries into a serving dish; a serving dish that already had the Shop Rite Jellied Cranberry Sauce she scooped into it.

Up until that point, I didn't really know what I was going to do with the couple of ounces of remaining Purity Organic Cranberries--over the months we had very slowly nibbled on the very, very tart berries. I was thinking about cooking them with the baked organic chicken I was preparing, or possibly adding them in with the jellied cranberry sauce.

She made the decision for me and am I glad she did. We blended them into the jellied cranberry sauce and the blend turned out perfect! The whole, tart cranberries are a perfect contrast to the sweet, jellied cranberry sauce.

Ava's Organic Cranberry Blend Recipe

- Two ounces of Purity Organic Cranberries, whole and ripened so that they're soft, but not overly ripened and mushy soft.

- One 14 ounce can of Shop Rite Organic Jellied Cranberry Sauce

Empty Shop Rite Organic Jellied Cranberry Sauce into a serving dish. Stir in approximately two ounces of Purity Organic Cranberries. Chill in refrigerator. Serve.

Purity Organic Cranberries are Tart, Tart and then Not So Tart

I've never tasted tarter cranberries than when I first nibbled on Purity Organic Cranberries. Then again, I've only nibbled on whole organic cranberries twice: the first time, on a couple of Ocean Spray organic cranberries.

The Ocean Spray Organic Cranberries were no where near as tart as the Purity Organic Cranberries. Even without having eaten many organic cranberries, I'm fairly confident Purity Organic Cranberries are some of the tartest, if not the tartest organic cranberries.

In fact, they were so tart neither my wife or I were eating them. They sat in a refrigerator drawer for at least a couple of months. I hate throwing away food, even though some bug or microbe somewhere in God's creation eventually eats the wasted food.

Nevertheless, because of not knowing what to do with the tart, tart organic cranberries and not wanting to throw them away, after trying them again a couple of months later, they were surprisingly pleasantly tart. Plus, we finally had a spontaneous creative moment, knowing what to do with them.

Shop Rite Organic Jellied Cranberry Sauce is Tasty, Tasty

I picked up a can of Shop Rite Organic Jellied Cranberry Sauce on a whim because it was on sale and because my wife likes cranberry juice and sauce a lot. I like cranberry sauce, but not like talking about it.

However, this organic cranberry sauce certainly tasted better than any other cranberry sauce I've eaten. The balance between sweet and tart was near perfect, to say nothing of its texture. It was jellied, but not nearly as jellied as most other cranberry sauces that come from a can. Shop Rite Organic Jellied Cranberry Sauce is easy to work with, easily separating and mashable into a thick sauce with a spoon.

The ingredients make this organic cranberry sauce the pick of the bunch too: organic cranberries, organic sugar, water, organic lemon juice concentrate, organic aronia concentrate and natural fruit pectin.

I certainly recommend Shop Rite Organic Jellied Cranberry Sauce and Purity Organic Cranberries, particularly stirred together and served cold with dinner. In fact, eat it as a treat on its own too. I just did!
