Avatar Racist? a Bunch Claim Cameron's Masterpiece Contains Racist Themes

Avatar racist? Themes that are looked at as racist in the movie Avatar are drumming up a commotion. A couple of days after Harry Reid's "racist statements" made their way through the news, now some are claiming that James Cameron's multi-million dollar masterpiece is really quite offensive.

So is Avatar racist, or are people looking too much in to the story about a white man navigating through the world of the Na'vi people? Conservatives think that the story is anti-American and even anti-human. They point out that the movie, which as brought in a hefty chunk of change, is yet another example of liberals running wild.

According to The Week, The Daily Telegraph claims with their "Maasai-style" clothing and "dreadlocked" hair, the Na'vi aliens are a "childish pastiche of the ethnic" who must rely on the "principled white man" - protagonist Jake Sully - to "lead them out of danger." How did this famously "left-wing director" make a film with such an "ugly mindset?"

Still yet, Screen Crave published another review of the movie written by a white person reads: Main white characters realize that they are complicit in a system which is destroying aliens, AKA people of color ... (then) go beyond assimilation and become leaders of the people they once oppressed," she wrote. When will whites stop making these movies and start thinking about race in a new way?" wrote Newitz, who is white.

So what is it? Is the movie really racist or are we reading too much in to things?

Let's start with what we know. We know Avatar is a blockbuster hit. Its 3D version is unlike any theater experience anyone has ever seen in their life. With all the reviews, it appears as if people are VERY pleased with the special effects, they just aren't pleased with the story line of the movie.

Some claim that the movie is too much "Dances With Wolves" and "Pocahontas." The cliché has angered some, who think that in the day and age today, we should be able to look past previous stereotypes and come up with something more original.

Still yet, the relationships shown in the movie has transpired time and time again in our history. Personally, I think the implications are just as offensive for minorities such as African-Americans and Native Americans as they are for whites. That being said, I would think it would be hard to look past relationships that have existed for so long and trail blaze a new story line without really causing a controversy.

Filmmakers and directors can't win for losing. Instead of focusing on subliminal messages, political indoctrination, and trying to figure out what the director "meant" by each and every nuance in the film, why don't we just try to enjoy the movie for what it is - a 2 hour and 40 minute break from every day life.

Avatar was about saving the Earth and anti invasive modernists who think that all tribal, colonial or indigenous things need to change or step aside for their advances.

Im racist because I didnt vote for Obama, Im racist because I think Avatar was a great movie,Im racist because im a conservative. I am sick of everything being about race and not about peoples own choices. There is still racsism in this country but it is not like it used to be so stop making everything about it.

...the reality of such a thing like that happening is slim, despite people's feelings about other races. I really liked "Avater"; I hope the director keeps up and makes is sequel and I hope that people just enjoy the story. It's like picking up a book and reading just for the pleasure of delving into a fictional world. And when they are done, they can just close the cover and put it away. The movie is very ethnic and compares to indegionous tribes all over the world that haven't been touched by modern technology. It's wild and sci-fi; adventerous and romantic. I love the setting and the Na'vi race is such a lovely creation by the director. I give the movie two thumbs up.

This movie is about a subject that is very sensitive to some people. To lots of people, actually. A story about a people and their home and culture being destroyed, is it not about that? At the same time, it's just a story; a fiction meant to be enjoyed, not to take personally. People have a lot convictions about the past, about cultures being destroyed by a powerful and unrighteous force, and "Avatar" hits that nerve. But then so did many wonderful movies do the same thing, classic movies, too. I saw the message in "Avatar" and I agree with it; mankind does repeat many mistakes, and unfortunately there are still people on this planet who feel other races are inferior to themselves. Would mankind, now of days, go as far as destroying another race for money? Go as far as treating them like other races of human beings have been treated before? Perhaps; I feel a big group of people have it in them to do such things, if they could get away with it. However, I think the reality of such a th

Haha racist, everything is racist to someone nowadays. So what if the roles were reversed in the movie? Nothing I bet. The movie was teaching to come together and a persons journey to do that. Maybe most of you cannot perceive that. Oh noes! The great evil white man

And if anything it does not "perpetuate hated against people who are different", it makes a statement about how that is wrong.

It's just a movie. What happened to just watching a movie. Everybody seems to just be looking for so called "racist themes." You people are ridiculous. David your a fu@tard. Oh and good job Cameron...great movie.

Some of us are sorry that you think that our feelings about Avatar are stupid. But I won't go see it because I do believe that it is 'racist.' I first saw the trailers at the release of "2012" and made up my mind then that Avatar perpetuates hatred against people who are different, especially when they have natural resources of value.

This is the most retarded article I have ever wasted 5 minutes of my life reading. The author is to stupid to even insult! All of this stupid PC bullshit needs to stop, it's ruining this country!
