Avatars: Leaving a Lasting Impression on Associated Content

Ainsley Patterson
What is it they say, "a picture is worth a thousand words"? So, what thousand words does your avatar speak? There are many content producers here on Associated Content that have avatars that are quite memorable, these content producers opt to use their own avatar rather than one of the many provided by Associated Content. Up until now I have been using those pictures already provided for me, but I started to realize that I was drawn to those content producers' pages that featured avatars that gave me more of a glimpse into who they are.

When I add a producer to my favorites page I do so for a variety of reasons. Sometimes I will add a content producer to my favorites because I am personally interested in the type of content they produce, other times I do it because I feel that these content producers are great writers, whether I am personally interested in what they write about or not. However, no matter what the reason for adding them to my favorites, the truth is, I only continually visit a select few of these producers' pages: those pages of content producers who leave a lasting impression with their avatar.

While avatars aren't all that you need to gain more page views, they surely can help you to make a lasting impression on those whom you meet in the forums or those whom subscribe to your content. There are some content producers here on Associated Content whose avatars have made a lasting impression on me. When I think about these content producers I can automatically recall what their avatar looks like which helps me to find their pages on my ever growing favorites list.

Tsu Dho Nimh's content producer page is one that I love to frequent for two reasons. The first reason I love to visit her page is because I feel like she has a lot to offer in terms of learning how to be a successful content producer here on Associated Content. The second reason I like to frequent her page is because I truly enjoy her content. I can always easily find Tsu's content producer page in my list of favorite producers because of her memorable, sephia toned, headshot avatar.

Michelle L Devon, who many know as Michy, can frequently be found in the forums helping others with their many questions regarding Associated Content in general, as well as questions regarding their own content. With well over 200 articles published and over a million pages views, there can be no argument over Michy's success here on Associated Content, she has definitely got a way of drawing people in to read her content. When I decide I want to do a little research on how to improve my content submissions here on Associated Content I know that I can find useful information on Michy's page, so I just go to my favorites list and click on that clean, professional, headshot avatar with the red and black border around it. It is kind of hard to forget an avatar when it stares right at you.

While both of these content producers elected to use headshots for their avatars there are plenty of content producers on my favorites list that used other avatars that are easy for me to recall. Eclectic Muse has a nice purple flower for her avatar, and so it is quite easy for me to locate her on the list. I know Amy Brantley and RS by their computer generated avatars, a illustrated headshot and a US flag in the shape of the country, respectively. So, while you don't need to use a photo to make a lasting impression with your avatar, you do need to use something unique to you. The internet can be a cold and impersonal place, so it is always nice when you can put some kind of image with what you are viewing on the internet. Your avatar is a chance for you to make one more impression on your readers, so why not choose an impression that no one else is making?

If you need a place to create an avatar try one of these websites, theuse a simple screen shot to save it to your computer.

April, I like yours, it is relaxing. It doesn't need to be a headshot, just something unique.

Awe, you mentioned me! That flower blooms on a cactus I have growing out back. I just love the color. It only blooms once a year and lasts for a couple of days. Another great read, thanks Abby!
