Averatec 6100 Series Laptop Review and Personal Views
A Sleek, Powerful, Portable Laptop for Everyone
Averatec is a fairly new company headquartered in Orange County, CA. They focus on delivering stylish and innovative laptop computers backed by superior customer support and terrific prices. After doing a little research and reading reviews I decided to take a chance on this new company.
I purchased an Averatec 6100 Series laptop computer. This series has an Intel Pentium 4 Processor, Microsoft Windows XP Home addition, 15.4" Wide Screen Display, Built in Digital Media Reader, ATI Mobility Radeon 9600 graphics, 512 MB DDR upgradeable to 1 GB DDR, up to 60 GB hard drive, DVD/CD-RW burner, upgradeable to include DVD burner, a 56k modem, wireless 802.11g, and weighs 7.7 lbs.
This series comes in three different models. I purchased a 6130H1, which is the middle of the road model and has a 40 GB hard drive, 3.0 GHz processor, and 3 USB ports. For my first laptop purchase, I am thrilled with what I got.
The Averatec laptop computer runs seamlessly. I have no problem running multiple programs at once. It is not uncommon for me to have 6 or 7 different programs and windows open. It has not slowed down any since I first got it and I have downloaded thousands of ebooks, software, music and pictures.
This Averatec laptop has a built in scrolling feature on the mouse-pad. I intend to buy a mouse but in the meantime this works great. At times the mouse pad is a little too touchy and clicks through on a link when I am simply moving around. It is a small inconvenience but I manage.
The DVD/CD-RW is a breeze to use. To watch a DVD I simply have to put it in and it automatically starts up. This Averatec laptop came with CyberLink PowerDVD software. The picture and sound quality are great.
Burning data is also a breeze. You simply put in a disc, open a window with the data you want to burn and with three simple clicks it burns. If you want more flexibility with your burning you will need to get a burning program, but if you just want to burn for backup or to save space on your hard drive then this works great.
I have had no problems with the sound quality although I have read some reviews that state that the speakers seem to go out off and on. Mine are in stereo and have always worked just fine.
The Averatec laptop's IEEE 1394 FireWire interface and three high-speed USB 2.0 ports allow for fast digital video, audio and data transfer so you can spend less time downloading entertainment and more time enjoying it.
The keyboard is easy to use and comfortable. The USB ports are located on the side so you don't need to reach to the back to plug something in. There is a spot to add a floppy drive if you wish.
The Averatec laptop opens and closes with ease although I have noticed a slight bend in the top. The battery doesn't last much more than an hour but I know I could by a larger battery if needed.
I have had some trouble when the computer goes into sleep mode. After it goes into sleep mode, I push the button to wake it up and occasionally when I push the button it turns off instead of waking up.
My only other complaint is the weight. At 7.7 lbs it does get a bit heavy when traveling. I, of course, did not pay any attention to the weight when purchasing.
The Averatec Laptop comes with a PDF users manual that tells you everything you need to know about the laptop. It is informative, easy to read and came in real handy to this laptop virgin when trying to figure out all the things on my new laptop.
I was looking for something to replace my desktop and the Averatec Laptop fulfilled all my needs and wants. For productivity, graphics, sound, ease of use and overall performance the Avertec Laptop is a terrific choice for anyone.
