Avoid Chinese Toys - Buy Jewish Games for Chanukah

Great Family Fun Chanukah Gift Ideas that Everyone Can Play and Enjoy Together

Alice Langholt
So you want to give a Chanukah gift that doesn't contain lead or dangerous magnetic parts, won't be recalled, has some Jewish content, and is so much fun to play that all of a sudden you've equated Jewish and fun in everyone's mind. Your kids grow up to love being Jewish. All because you bought the right Chanukah present this year.

Ok, maybe that's a big wish. But I might be able to help.
Looney Labs games has a Chanukah Special on their popular and fun game, Fluxx. They have a 7-card add-on to Fluxx called the Jewish Booster Pack. Adding the 7 cards adds a Jewish "flavor" to the Fluxx game, and it's always good to throw Jewish and fun together whenever we can. Fluxx is a game with the gimic that the rules change as the game goes along. There are Goal cards, and when played, the goals change, so you might be closer or farther from winning at any given turn. New Rules cards determine how many cards you play, pick, or hold. Keeper cards are the ones you collect to meet the Goals. It's fun, and doesn't require a lot of rules learning; you basically jump in and start playing. My kind of game.

So the Chanukah deal is that if you order a Fluxx deck through their exclusive website, you get the Jewish Booster Pack free. You save $2. Hey, you can use the $2 to buy a little chocolate gelt to go with!

Here's the website with game play info and the link to the order page for the Chanukah deal. http://www.looneylabs.com/OurGames/JewishFluxxSpecial.html Pass it along!!!

And that's not all!! The popular party game Apples to Apples now comes in not one, but TWO Jewish editions - 12+ for teens & adults, and Junior, for anyone who can read. Apples to Apples is already fun, and the Jewish editions make Jewish players feel like they are understood and in on the joke. Each card has a funny quote, joke or definition on it, and the variety is what makes the game fun. Players get to judge which is more "Fragrant", Creamed Herring, My Bubbie's House, Challah, Toes, My Bedroom, Cholent, or The Ocean. (Someone always throws in a strange one). Which should win? Depends on who's the judge. My brother-in-law would choose The Ocean, just to start a debate. Maybe you know someone like that. Anyway...You can get it online or at any number of Judaic stores, plus some select Barnes & Nobles. It's even on sale here.

The best thing about getting a game for Chanukah is that it's something you can do together, and it doesn't involve tv or an X-Box. Everyone enjoys it, and so the benefit goes on and on. Family members are talking, laughing, interacting, sharing opinions. That's not something to underestimate. Quality family time...who knew? Also, you can play it with your grown-up friends when the kids are asleep and have fun on a different level. Win-win.

Happy Chanukah!!

Communication is easier when positive experiences are shared in the family. Jewish identity is strongest in people who had positive feelings associated with Jewish experiences, discussions, or activities.
